Yamaha Question

Ok, we finally broke down and added another addition to the "boat house." A couple of weeks ago we bought a 1756SC G3 with a Yamaha 50hp 2 stoke engine.

During the shakedown cruises we have noticed that the throttle will not stay put much over planing speed. My son has the boat now, so I can't verify or deny what I've been told, but there is supposedly a spring on the motor which restricts higher throttle operation without physically holding the lever in position. This sounds like BS to me. My experience with the 704 binnacle leads me to believe that there is a friction lock that needs adjustment....

......anybody have better information?

Hmmmm... suppose it is the same for 2-strokes? Gene

I had a Yamaha 50 a few years ago. There was a friction adjustment on the control unit. It was just a screw on the aft end of the engine control, behind the control lever. On my new Yamaha, the screw is on the side of the control, just below the lever. If you find the adjustment screw on your control and tighen it up a bit, you shouldn't have any more trouble. nfisherman

The manual specifically says not to hold it at 6000 rpm for more than 5 minutes at a time. I guess that's why the spring brings it back. I held it once for over 10 minutes to try to get out of a quick moving storm (I was on the other side of Lake Mendota in Madison).... all was well... Dan

This is how my Honda 90 four stroke is... a spring brings it back from 6000 rpm back to 4000 rpm if you dont hold it down... Dan
