Deal of the Century...

My long suffering wife has finally put her foot down - get rid of one of the boats and it can't be the Halman.

~~ women ~~

Anyway, I'm willing to make somebody one hell of a deal on a 2000 Ranger 200C CC bay boat with T-top and goodies. I might even throw in a couple of custom made rods and Penn reels if necessary to seal the deal. Note the might.

By the by, I mean ONE HELL OF A DEAL. So much so that you could probably take the boat down south and make a couple of thou.

Exactly - because you have to fix them all the time.

That's not engineering brilliance - that's common sense. :>)

NOTE: For the record, we once owned a Volvo that was so over engineered, to change the warning/signal flasher, you had to remove the dashboard to get to it.

And, wasn't it one of the Firebirds or Camaros that required loosening an engine mount and lifting the motor a few inches to access at least one of the spark plugs? Back in the late 1970s, IIRC. Doug

Did you watch the video? The hilux is incredible.

Why do you think GM and Ford has just posted 50% + decline in their trucks and SUVs... where Toyota is actually up in parts of this sector... People know quality, and I think Detroit finally got it that making junk is not something people are willing to pay for...

Knowing that 2-3 grand from each vehicle is made to pay for some employee retirement plan is enough for me to say screw that! I would rather if that 2-3 grand was spent in making the truck not fall apart after 5 years.

Fix them all the time??

you have got to be kidding me right... now I know you are just joking around... talk to ANYONE with a Toyota and ask them how much they are fixing them...

Dan

Remember that Tom makes custom fishing lures. They obviously work well, even on me, and I should know better. :-) Doug

You're opposed to employee retirement plans? Harry

Cadillac actually - both rear cylinders - had to detach the engine from the tranny.

That was just plain stupid.

Yeah, OK. "Stroke" is exactly the right word here.

Hey...I resemble that! I kept my previous car 10.5 years before trading it in on my new 1995 Voyager mini-van....which is now 10.5 years old. In this neck of the woods , we call it 'being thrifty'. Don

At ten years, the only reason to get rid of this truck would be boredom. Doug
Oct 4
Give it up dude. Any Toyota truck will put ANY GM or Ford truck to shame. Dan

Like I said - cheap. :>) Shortwave
Oct 4
Really...

And just what do you base that little piece of data on?

Shortwave
Oct 4
Cheap??? A $515.00 per month car payment is cheap??? It's the half the size of my mortgage payment! Doug
Oct 4
Borrow a car and drive behind your Ford/Chevy/Dodge truck for a few minutes. Engine manufacturing tolerances are quite a bit wider (polite term) than what Toyota considers acceptable. The American trucks, right out of the showroom, smell like 30 year old vehicles. Not smoke. "Other". If you need a really clear demo, focus on what Dodge/Chrysler mini-vans smell like when they're more than a couple of years old.

By the way, my comment on manufacturing tolerances comes from a dubious source: A friend who works on site with car makers, setting up their CNC machinery. The level of precision is specified by each manufacturer, which blows off any comments like "CNC machinery is capable of amazing precision". Yeah - but the user of the machinery has other issues to address, like production speed.

You are paying $515 per month on a ten year old pickup?

Hey, I want to talk to you about a bridge I have for sale.

Shortwave

I wouldn't know - I drive a diesel pickup.

And the wife drives a Mercedes.

Shortwave

Back up, Mr FishSporting. :-) It's 3 years old, still making payments. Doug

Oooh....which Mercedes? Doug

For one, try doing this to a GM or Ford... Toyotas are almost impossible to kill

Please - dropping an empty aluminum box on a roll bar qualifies it as tough?

Get a life.

Ah - well then - that's ok.

A little much for a Japanese pickup truck, but what do I know?

Don't you ever talk to anyone who's owned Toyotas, Tom? With rare exceptions, the vehicles simply do not have mickey mouse bullshit problems that make you wonder what the designers were thinking (if in fact they were).

My '92 Taurus had a fusible link in the wire to the starter motor. Not unusual, except for one problem: It was located under the car, with no means of protection from the elements. One day, it simply crumbled. No ride to work that day.

My Mercury wagon's stick shift was held onto the tranny by a threaded plastic collar. Great idea for a part that's 4" from the exhaust pipe. I downshifted from 3rd to 2nd approaching a traffic light, and the stick shift came out of the tranny. The collar had melted. Ford said they'd never heard of this before. Even better: The only way to fix the thing was to remove the gen-yoo-ine leather boot. That was attached to a frame which bolted to the body, not to the console. So, the carpet has to come out. That meant the seats had to come out. Bullshit.

By contrast, spend some time looking over a Toyota, imagining how you'd access various things for repair. They're brilliantly thought out.

True story: Dad: The Caddy's in the shop again. Transmission this time. Gonna be about $1500.00. Me: How many miles? Dad: 60 something thousand. Me: That's ridiculous. Same problem with the Buick, right? Dad: It could happen to any car.

That last line - that's the thought you must hold close to your heart in order to remain blind to the fact that you could have something better.

Doug

What - that's not a lot. Shortwave

SWMBO's are that way. She was so happy when I sold my 14' aluminum boat a couple of weeks ago, after having not used it for about 10 years. Bill

It's precisely the towing limit of my truck. Being a Toyota, it's probably a conservative number, but still....I don't want to mess up a 10 year investment. If it was a throwaway like a Chevy or Ford.... Doug
Oct 4
ROFLMAO.... and I tow #8,000 with a Colorado.....

throwaway, indeed......

So now you're just another non-boater here harassing legit boaters. Don

You could trade up to the Tundra 4WD V8. It's rated at 7000 lbs. Don

Nope, still got 3 plus a float tube. 21' aluminum Jetboat, canoe, tandem kayak, and the float tube. Taking the canoe and float tube for trout this weekend. Bill

I'll trade you a cheese hat, three bags of pretzels, and 2 matched pairs of RCA 6L6's.

I'm not a big GM fan, but my current yard truck is an '89 Chevy 1500. Original 350 motor, tranny, rear end. Interior and body all original. Everything works,it drives and rides great, and it still looks good. At 16 years old, it's worth more than that Toy.

Besides, it'll snatch that puny-assed Toyota all over the place. 3500# towing limit? That's not a towing limit... it's a warning... to not try to tow anything!

Jack

Liar! I went there and all you are selling is rods, reels, and lures....

Anyway... pending a divorce....I might be interested....

Should I email? Or should I expect specs......?
