Old dog, new trick...

I had a 1" height adjustment nut on one of the trailer support stanchions that was really rusted on. I would have used my acetylene torch to heat the nut up to get it off, but I never do that right - I either under heat the nut or over heat it - it's not something that I have a great deal of expertise at.

So, I took it down to my friend Harold down at the local tractor restoration/repair shop who gave it to his long time mechanic. The guy took a look at it, got out a five pound dead blow hammer and smacked the nut on all five sides using an anvil as a base.

I'll be danged if that nut loosened right up and with a moderate amount of effort and some PB Blaster, came off enough to use a wire brush to get the worst of the rust off, rethreaded the nut using some Never-Seize (best anti-seize compound in the freakin' world) - presto, that part of the job done.

I never would have thought of whacking it with a deal blow hammer to loosen up the rust.

Old dog, new trick.
