Faded Old Fiberglass Boat - TRANSFORMED!

I have just discovered the best boating product ever invented. It has
transformed my dear old boat into a BEAUTY. She was so faded out and
discolored and I rarely ever get this excited over product. But this
was worth every cent! I'm gonna try to figure out other things around
my home that I can use it on! I'll report back. Copy and go to the
links. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY! Lynn in NC |

| Chuck,
Since you are expressing your opinion on Skipper's boat ownership and
experience. Do you believe Harry actually owns this infamous Lobster Boat,
who the only person who ever saw the boat was a new poster who was using
Harry's IP, and disappeared as soon as someone pointed out Harry's sock
puppet. Since you question Skipper's salt water experience, don't you also question
Harry's claim to have sailed the "Cape" (Horn) a number of times? <chuckgould.chuck@gmail.com> wrote in message |

| I've never seen any claim by Harry that he has sailed around the horn
one or more times.
Not to say it hasn't been made- but if it has I have not seen it and I
therefore have no opinion. Millions of people have sailed around the
horn, no reason that a poster to the NG may not have done so. Does
Harry continually berate others for lack of specific round-the-horn
experience? If so, I've missed that. (He has berated people for other
issues, yes). I know where there's a big yellow, mid channel buoy with a fog signal
built in.
I suppose I could motor out to the middle of the sound, do a few
circles around the buoy, and claim to have boated around the "horn",
but what would be the point? My boating adventures aren't the world's
most exciting, nor do they need to be for boating to be fun- which is
what this is all about. As far as the 36-foot lobster boat goes: I would bet big money that
Harry owns his Parker.
Even one of his regional neighbors, John H, (who is no great fan of
Harry) confirms that he owns that boat. I would bet less money on the
lobster boat, only because Harry has been less than forthcoming with
any real details about the boat. He has claimed its because he is po'd
at Skipper and Skipper is demanding the information. As one who shares
Psuedo's Schidt List with Mr. Krause, I'm in a unique position to
appreciate that perspective. There are some guys to whom you'd hesitate
to offer a drink of water if you were crossing a desert in a tanker
truck and they were alongside the roadway dying of thirst. Me, I'd be
all grumpy about it but I'd probably give him some water. Can't speak
for Harry, however. :-) Conclusion: I have no doubt that Harry owns the Parker. I am not
entirely convinced that Harry has more than some partial interest in a
Lobster boat- but I could be wrong, and it doesn't matter anyway. |

| On the other hand, there's NO evidence whatsoever that Smithers: 1. has a real name
2. has a real identity
3. has any sort of boat
4. has any of the accomplishments for which he puts others down Smithers is a complete and utter fraud. Which is why I don't read his posts and only see some of them on a
second hand basis.

He seems fixated on some alleged event where you supposedly laughed at

happened....I'm guessing Skippy wasn't there at the time? |

| You might be interested to know how your miracle product likely works.
It's what some of my unscrupulous competitiors used to call "cheating"
the finish, back in the days when I was in the used car business. When
I got a pretty decent old car that was
mostly suffering from a case of the faded-paing uglies, I'd send it out
to Maaco and for $400 or so get a medium quality paint job. Other guys
would take a mixture of carnuba and kerosene, (lots of kerosene), and
"cheat the finish". When they were done, their cars would look almost
as good as the cars I sent out for paint, and if they sold them quickly
enough they would continue looking pretty good until about halfway to
the point where the first monthly payment was due..... You put some temporary shine on a wasted old finish by covering it with
a petroleum based product. It worked. It won't last. Maintaining that
psudeo "finish" would soon be more work and eventually cost more money
than just simply painting the boat. Word to the wise: rec.boats is a tough neighborhood where a lot of
psychological bullies and misfit nerds hang out. Should you ever dare
express an opinion on any subject here, expect to be treated badly by
one group or another. Expect to be flamed for posting "off-topic" by a
group that includes members reduced to copying paragraphs from
Steinbeck or Hemmingway books in order to have anything remotely
related to boating to post here, and spends many hours a day immersed
in flame wars and trying to start even more.
Some members of this group will scorch you for posting "off topic", in
a week where they have launched 15-30 off-topic threads of their own
design. Yes it sounds ridiculous, but stick around- seeing is
believing. It would be good idea to hang out here a while and learn the various
"personalities" if you think you want to post to rec boats. (For
instance, swearing at JimH was just about as politically wrong a move
as you could have made.) Odds are, if you do hang out here for a while
and learn the various personalities, you won't bother to post and
you'll move on to a less ridiculous, less explosive venue. Good luck with rec.boats, and let us know when the shine starts to get
sticky, faded, and blotchy on that old boat. :-) |
chuckgould.chu...
Nov 15
|
| And they're seldom disappointed.
Getting offended while reviewing rec.boats is a predictable as getting
wet when falling overboard. |
chuckgould.chu...
Nov 15
|
| No offense, Jim, but long-time posters like Robbins, Fritz, Smithers, et
al, put up nothing of value here, and yet you rarely take them to task. |
Harry
Nov 15
|
| Why would I be upset? Very few people in the NG have ever met me, and maybe 18-24 months
after you did you posted the following opinion (from April,
2002). Quote:
We all make mistakes. I believe her wordy and somewhat insulting debate with Chuck Gould was nothing more than that, a small personal
miscalculation. I've met Mr. Gould and have had business dealings with
him. You would look long and hard to find a more honest and
knowledgeable broker. His boating views *are* worthy of note. End Quote: Even though I was no longer working as a broker when you posted this, I
thought the comment that one would have to "look long and hard to find
a more honest and knowledgeable broker" was reasonably complimentary.
No reason to be upset. You won't find anybody who has personally dealt
with me to refute that sentiment, except for maybe some lame nerd
someplace who now claims his own statement was a lie.....not because it
wasn't true, but because it doesn't fit his new agenda. If he is so
fast and loose with the truth that his version of truth changes with
the pages on the calendar, nobody will pay him any attention. Besides,
he now claims he was somehow treated dishonestly in a boat deal- when
ne *never bought a boat*! That's pretty tough to do. :-) What's on the agenda for today? More of Mrs. Psuedo's holiday recipes?
A few more pages copied from Steinbeck to establish your "boating"
credentials? I can hardly wait.... |

Nov 15
|
| I don't think Skipper ever owned even that 22' Crappyliner. When he
visited you, did you get the impressed he actually knew anything about
boats? |
Harry
Nov 15
|
| To be fair, Skipper did indeed own that 22-footer. You might recall the
incident where somebody surfing the web came across an advertisement
for a 22-foot boat for sale in Derby, KS that matched the description
that Skipper had shared with the NG. When asked, Skipper admitted that
he was selling his boat (had something to do with a case of bad
knees....on Skipper, not under the deckand low expectations for
being able to boat again, if I recall correctly, but that has been
several years ago....). My foggy recollection of Skipper's boating knowledge seems to be that
he was very well read on the subject but lacked practical experience.
You could see how little tidbits of
one school of thought and those of another would get jumbled up into a
weird third (pretty unworkable) compromise......the sort of thing that
sets one off on a multi-year quest for the "perfect" boat, all the
while still unsure, (he claims) even whether he wants to go with power
or sail. Given the oportunity, (hard to find in KS), Dave might have
been able to vet the confilicting theories with some actual experience. My impression is that Skipper has gone charter fishing (on boats owned
by others) down in the Gulf of California a few times or more. You may
recall a post where somebody found a photo of Dave Mann on a charter
boat operator's web site. It is from these experiences that he claims
extensive expertise regarding boating in the Sea of Cortez. I doubt the 22-footer ever saw any saltwater, stories of braving 20-30
foot breaking waves down in Mexico with the little runabout
notwithstanding. In the latest version of the truth, I believe he now
claims he braved that "Torito" on a sailboat. Confuses heck out of me-
I can't figure out where you'd mount the mast on that runabout he used
to own, or why one would carry a collection of portable gas cans to
extend the range of a sailing vessel; and he previously insisted he
survived that storm in his Bayliner......oh well. |

|
| Not at all true. Getting offended is dependant on the feelings one has for the
offender. I can think of nothing Kevin could say in this group that would make
me feel 'offended'. The same is true of Harry. There must be, in my opinion, a measure of respect for the offender in order for
one to feel offended. If jps calls me a 'stupid, fucking asshole', I will
chuckle, but sure as hell not 'feel offended'.

| I'd forgotten that episode. Of course, it could have been someone else |
Harry
Nov 15
|
| Nope. Why would you descend to her level, however? You made a bigger deal than was maybe required about the obvious SPAM,
and she reacted badly. (I don't find her commercial for a boating
related product any more or less ridiculous than the anti-semitic
Psuedo JC ((as in Julia Child, the recipe gal)) who has been posting
recipes all day or Harry's non-stop citation of the latest bad poll
numbers for GWB). Insinuating that she screws her way into real estate deals was maybe a
bit unwarranted. You don't actually know the woman, right? It's kind of
a stretch from posting spam in what's left of our boating NG (God
forbid that somebody not follow all the rules here) to selling houses
on your back or knees. No big deal. Carry on. |

| This was a real lesson in Humanity for me tonight. Look at JimH's
postings and the sensless entertainment he seems to feel of okay. I
felt assaulted and hit him with a stern message and you see where the
real man took it. It's pretty sad to see this. I was and am not
SPAMMING. I have two boats and purchased some product in SC about 6
months ago. Finally, I got around to using it and put a post on the
boating sites in which I am a silent member. I see idiots on these
sites all the time, sharing recipies, for God's sake. But I never
attach them. He started it and I lashed out and see where it landed.
