Yamaha 25 hp 2-stroke
Hi, first post. I am considering buying an '05 Yamaha 25 hp 2-stroke
for my 12.6f Quicksilver inflatable. At first considered a 4-stroke
(this is my first boat) but it weighs about 40 pounds more. Question:
Is there anything that should dissuade me from buying the Yamaha and
instead going with Tohatsu or Merc? I've heard good and bad stories
about each, but more good than bad about Yamahas; price not the
determining factor because each is only separated from the others by a
few hundred bucks. As for supply with the new EPA regs, local dealers
have each in stock so all that is left is for me to bite the bullet.
Thanks for the opinions; can't wait till spring! |

| There are lots of 2 cycle engines available now at www.craigslist.com.
I found a 2000 model 15 HP Tohatsu/Nissan for $900 with only 5 hours on
it. Tohatsu (92 lb.) is heavier than Yamaha and Mercs. Hard to check
specs on the other two because all 2 cycles specs are becoming archived
stuff on the company's web sites. Boat: 1998 12' Prestige Conquest (Achilles) (wood floor, inflatable
keel, PVC, 16" tubes) |

| Thanks. Yeah, I had checked on Craig's list before ultimately deciding
to buy new. With such a complicated, maintenance-intensive piece of
equipment, I thought biting the bullet and buying new was my best bet.
Thanks! |
