| Interesting link with interesting parallels! The Outer Banks of NC
also has wild horses... descendants of those that survived ship
wrecks. The original (white) inhabitants of the OBX also had the
brogue of the british isles.. and to this day are referred to as "hoi
toiders," and distinguished from those of the Piedmont (primarily
Irish/Scottish), and the mountains (again, british, but with a
different dialect). Some other interesting points: Nags Head... a place where a lantern was tied around a horse's neck to
emulate a light house and confound sailors.. causing them to run
aground and spill the ships contents for easy retrieval by OBX
inhabitants. Bodie Island... (pronounced "body" island..... a place where the
"bodies" washed ashore... Roanoke Island... the first settlement in the new world... Much of this area is speckled with GA airports, visitor centers,
fishing piers, marinas, campgrounds (some clothing optional (at
times)), and dozens of other amenities.... A word to the wise, however, even (no, especially) for swimmers....
the water is incredibly treacherous. Boats transiting inlets should be
competently skippered and have copious reserve power. The descriptor
"Graveyard of the Atlantic" was given... it was EARNED......
