Rec.Boats Dead as Useful NG

There was a time when this NG was a great source of boating information. Plug just about any inquiry into Deja/Google and you'd find great information from this group. Not anymore. Today...400 posts of garbage...and from 'contributors' who have very little practical knowledge of boats AND boating. The knowledgeable sources have gone to saner climes.

Just look at the posts from the NG's most prolific offenders; Harry Krause, Doug Kanter, Bert Robbins, Alt_man2, JimH, JohnH, P. Fitz, or Gene Kearns. Research the archives for ANY relevant subject...these folks are totally void of useful boating information in the archives. You will not see this current crop of know nothings being the source for anything useful.

Face it, rec.boats is a bad joke to serious boaters...as are those who continue to contribute to the pollution. Go ahead fellas, make a name for yourselves... -- Skipper

Actually, I have looked, JimH is one of the worst offenders. There was a time when this NG was a great source of boating information, but no more. Harry's barbs and insults drew in far too many non-boaters who see NG participation as a game where nonsense prevails. The unique position of this NG to provide a variety of viewpoints to an on-topic subject has been overcome and swamped by tons of insults and gibberish. Serious boaters are no longer the driving force of this NG...and it ain't about to change.

Skipper, It might not change, but the suggestion to start on topic posts, and ignore the Off Topic trolls for the next week is a start.

Sort of like an alcoholic, we just need to take one day at a time.

I just looked at my outdoor thermometer.

Hard to take boating seriously at the moment.

It's said that when a bunch of fatuous do-see-know-nothings gets carried away by the slightest breeze of fame and acquire an overly high estimation of their own worth, their ridiculous vanity soon makes them a laughing-stock. This NG proves the adage.

This NG has been transformed into a slime pit populated by a nasty nest of effusive dim-wits deserving of a session with the scold's bridle.

Solly Challie, but you haven't tried then.

But a quick Google of your posts since you came here shows nothing but you whining, lying and preaching.

Get a life Skipper. And then try looking in the mirror.

Next time, include my entire post please.

Here was my original post that you conveniently clipped in parts:

So tell us about your boat and your boating adventures in Derby, Kansas Skipper. What sort of trips did you take these past years on your boat?

BTW: If I remember right *you* came here just recently after a prolonged absence only to spread lies about several members here, most especially Chuck Gould. This went on for weeks.

You have also not contributed one iota to any discussion about boats since you came back. You have, however, dug up some old posts you made years back about an adventure to the Sea of Cortez and fighting 20 foot waves in a 24 foot Bayliner. You have also bitched and moaned and started flame wars.

Go back to hiding Skippy. We were better off without you here. ======

Perhaps I was in error to include you in the list of the worst NG polluters. Would you care to point us toward a couple useful and informative boating posts of yours we can find in the Google archives? ....Didn't think so. And that was the message here...useful contributions versus uselessness. Time for you folks to find something useful to do.

You didn't say what kind of information you were looking for.

That would be a good start.

I have actually noticed some signs of improvement recently. Lead by example.
