Your new dream boat - Is this your final answer - Part Deux

OK, you bought your dream boat with that lottery jackpot you won. Let's assume you purchased a brand spanking new Nordhavn 57 http://www.nordhavn.com/57/overview.php4 .

It is time now to equip it for a long range ocean travel.

Let's start with electronics including navigation, communications, entertainment.

Again, money is no object.

We've taken a Cat 3 on the chin with Wilma...and were brushed by the southern portion of Cat. 4 Charley last year. Neither affected home prices in this area. NOYB

I have a Boston Whaler strapped to the roof of my house as my tsunami contigency plan. NOYB

I would take this one any day: http://tinyurl.com/7wqv3

See...there are areas in which we agree. Harry

All those places, plus Naples are going when the tsunami from the Canary Islands happens. Bill

With one exception - Napatree Beach in RI. Shortwave

Didn't know it was for sale. :-)

If it's a bargain, I'll take it.

You've had a few close calls the past several years, no? Harry

Most of the waterfront property on Marthas Vineyard and Connecticut was washed away in the hurricane of 1938. It doesn't seem to have had any long term impact on property values however.

Yep. 5 numbers in many States.
Dec 29
5 numbers for your lotto?

How big are the winnings for 5 numbers? Our 5-number lotto usually wins you "only" a couple hundred thousand. I couldn't even pay off my equity line for that.

Dec 30
Nice to know you are in freakin' debt up to your eyeballs.

I honestly don't know, I'm really not a gambler - I might play Powerball if the money gets North of 100 million, but that's about it.

Sorry NOYB, but I could not resist. You walked right into that one. ;-)
Dec 29
A day of reckoning is in your future, Mr. Leveraged. Harry

I passed my eyeballs long ago. ;-) NOYB
Dec 30
No offense taken. And like I told Tom: I passed my eyeballs long ago. NOYB
Dec 30
Really? Care to wager? Not that I'm a betting man. ;-) NOYB
Dec 30
I understand. 8 years of college, medical equipment, office rent, staff wages and liability insurance, besides your personal mortgage will do that.

In the end, however, you may end up being the one laughing all the way to the bank.

Dec 29
I plan to retire at age 60. If my house appreciates an average of just 5% per year for the next 26 years, the house will be worth $4.8 million when I retire. Assuming I never pay one penny towards principle, I'll still owe a little over $900k on it...leaving me with nearly $4 million in equity at retirement. I could sell it and use that $4 million in equity to move elsewhere, downsize to a condo, or do a reverse mortgage on the place (most likely scenario).

The boats, dental practice, cars, kid's school, etc. will already be paid for. So really there's no downside.

In reality, though, waterfront property in Naples is likely to appreciate more than 5% average per annum over the next 26 years, so the likely scenario only gets rosier.

NOYB
Dec 30
The reality is, waterfront property in Naples over the next 26 years is likely to be washed away in a hurricane/flood. Harry

If you don't think babes and a wife are a complicated system, you need to get out more.

That will cost a little more, but they are out there.

We've seem em, and I found them most decorative. Mrs B was less impressed and tried to take my binoculars. :-)

Spoil sport.

Of course, you could have made a wise ass remark like I did once - 0h, like - "Seen one seen 'em all". Of course, that's now why I need a shoulder replacement, but we won't go into that. :>)

Jim Jim! Of all people I expected better from you. We'll have plenty of time for the nasty stuff in the New Year. Can you hold out 4 more days? Don

I would. Especially since there are only 5 numbers there. NOYB

Not sure yet how many of these: http://content1.babesdiary.com/sarah-and-celine/00.jpg (Thank you to my traffic manager for this one)

Can't forget my trusty this: http://www.peavey.com/images/products/bassguitars/cirrus/Cirrus4_00461110_lg.jpg

Probably some Fritos, too.

Other than the babes? A more "complicated system" has yet to be invented.

You probably meant that although the babes are a complicated system, (especially when there are more than one!), they couldn't really be considered "too many." :-)

chuckgould.chu...
Dec 29
They are really complicated if you also have a wife! Bill
Dec 29
Long range ocean travel?

Two of everything. Any major brand. Separate components so a single electronics failure doesn't wipe out an entire nav system.

Particularly important:

SSB radio Satellite communication system Weather Fax One of the radars a 72nm system GPS Plotter(s)

Dec 29
Chuck, Are two athletic perky woman enough? Reggie
Dec 29
and is it necessary to keep them in separate components? Reggie

This from a fellow who thinks 45 colt ammo is too expensive? Harry

Now your talking. String bikinis or skimpy thongs? Shortwave
Dec 29
For keeping unwanted yachtage away from my cocktailage, screwage and musicage, no ammo is too expensive. :-) Doug

Dec 29
Psst....Tom.12, 15, 30, 46, 54.

And don't tell anybody.

Dec 29
I don't know about separate components, but if you have two perky, athletic women aboard for entertainment purposes it might be wise to keep them in separate compartments. If one of the two is a wife and the other a mistress, you better opt for entirely separate vessels..... chuckgould.chu...
Dec 29
Topless with thongs, of course. Harry
Dec 29
The last time I was in Atlanta (and I am thankful for that) was at a convention. The head of the organization had his wife and mistress staying on separate floors in the same hotel. Guess what...the wife caught him. What a surprise. Harry
Dec 29
Wouldn't you shit a brick if I played those numbers and won. :>) Shortwave
Dec 29
Yeah - I'll bet I know what they would be "fishing" for too. Shortwave
Dec 29
I think Eisboch already took your advice last year. ;-)

This is a thread about boats. Harry, why don't you just join in the fun...otherwise STFU and stop the whining.
Dec 29
I wouldn't be caught dead in a Nordhaven 57 Shortwave
Dec 29
Fine, then equip whatever boat you want.
Dec 29
As soon as the fun starts, I'll join in. When I was in junior high, I remember chatting with the other fellows about "what kind of car would you buy if you had a really big allowance?" I'm not in junior high anymore, and I don't fantasize about slow-moving boats that must draw nearly 8' of water.

I enjoy practical or informational boating discussions.

What you're doing, and I don't mean it as an insult, is playing "Smithers." He has absolutely nothing meaningful to contribute to a boating discussion, so he searches the internet for something - anything - that is boating-related. Well, you're not a boating poseur, so why play one?

Harry
Dec 29
I have no idea what I'd do with one. Run aground a lot? Harry
Dec 29
Harry, I have to be honest with you, that hurts my feelings to be called a poseur. I would prefer if you didn't call me names. If you don't have anything nice to say, please don't say anything at all. Reggie
Dec 29
Kewl!!!

Ok, first I'd start with Raymarine E-system - the whole shooting match including the bow thruster interface for positioning purposes. Second, I'd install a Sea Tel system for communications including Internet/phone and whatever else I could stuff into it.

Third, a Sea Tel Satellite TV system with US/EU compatibility and the HDTV application.

Fourth, whatever was in vogue for stereo equipment today along with flat screen LCD TVs for all the staterooms.

A complete set of fly-by-wire controls for engines, HVAC, steering, etc.

Last, and not least, A bevy of busty deck hands whose uniforms consist of string thong bikini's.

Shortwave
Dec 29
Tom, I would agree with all of your choices except for the bevy of busty deck hands. I would prefer tall athletic woman with small and perky boobs. I find the busty deck hands only want to lie in the hammock or sunpad. Reggie
Dec 29
Would you know? Bill
Dec 29
And after the wife boards, they will find you dead, on whatever that is not a Nordhaven 57. Bill
Dec 29
Other than the babes, too many complicated systems. Harry
