New Year's Day on the water?
So who gets to spend New Year's Day on the water?I'd love to take my little boat out for a spin, but the weather reports are
suggesting that it might be drier in the water than above the water
(Northern California). Will your day on the water be fishing or just a joy ride and picnic with
some friends? I can't wait until the rainy season ends. I never felt that way until my
wife bought the boat this summer! Happy New Year to ya'll Bryan

| Swells are without wind waves. They get thrown on top of the swell, but
sometimes are a different angle. Nasty then. Most of the summer is 3-8'
swells, and little wind until about 11:30 am. Most of the time, you get
your fishing done and head back in about 10:30. July is normally nicest
time. When you get the South winds, it is the worst. No shelter and the
Pt. Bonita area (North side of the Golden Gate at Lands End) gets really
sloppy. |

| As long as you're answering questions, what does 'dominant period of 13 seconds'
mean?
|
JohnH
Dec 31
|
| The time between crests. the closer together, the steeper, and nastier. 13
seconds, says they are really steep and nasty. In the summer we get 8'
swells with 20-24 second periods. |

recover. No work on Monday so will probably stay Sunday night as well. |

| Weather is supposed to be perfect here and I was planning on going
out...BUT, my boat is at the shop for trim problem. :( I've only
been able to have it out once so far since I bought it last month, and
that was only for about an hour. |

| Do you still have that link to the horseradish sauce recipe John? I lost
it. |

|
| Don't have the link, but will this do? Ukrainian Sour Cream and Horse-Radish Sauce
Makes 2 1/4 cups delicious horse-radish sauce Sour cream is a staple in every Ukrainian kitchen. Practically every meal has
something made with sour cream. I know. My grandparents were Ukrainian.
This very tasty horse-radish sauce is easy to make and is delicious anytime.
2 cups fresh sour cream (Check the expiration date on the lid).
3 Tablespoons of freshly grated, washed horse-radish roots from your garden
or a jar of prepared, white grated horse-radish from your local store.
1 teaspoon white granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon plain or iodized salt
Mix all the ingredients together in medium stainless steel mixing bowl.
Cover and chill for 1 hour. This will allow the flavors to mingle together.
Serve the horse-radish sauce at room temperature with your meal. Enjoy this very
tasty sauce...! |

| Sounds like the AM boating is out for sure, at least it would be for
me. :-) Good day for a hot fire and a cold beverage ashore. How much of your combined sea is a swell vs. wind wave when they're
running 16-19 feet?
I'm not well versed on your local conditions, but with only 15-25kt
winds it would seem like swells would predominate. At 16-19 feet, I
assume you're seeing the latent influence of the same storm that passed
through and generated those 50kt gusts. By way of comparison, what are
your typical summer swells and period outside of the gate? |

| With a forecast of rain and snow, temps in the 30's and the boat in
hibernation since OctoberI don't think so. Even if I could there are too many great football games (mainly College) on
that day and we look forward to a Prime Rib prepared to JohnH's
recommendation. ;-) Regardless, glad to hear you are enjoying your new boat Bryan and Happy New
Year to you and your family. |

| I know the feeling. All those crabs out of Halfmoon Bay / pillarpoint
harbor , and swells as big as my 21' boat. |

| I was hoping, but daughter is staying through Sunday and the wife has a
series of family obligations planned for the weekend. Boat show the
next two weekends.....
After that, I'm getting out on the boat with or without the Mrs. :-) |

|
| Yeah, I've decided I'm putting the boat in the water on the next fairweather
day (I was tempted, but resisted, to put the boat in rain or shine today)
whether my wife or kids want to join or not. I've just got an urge to fire
it up and take it for a spin. I'll take a fishing pole as an excuse. |

| Hi everyone. I'm looking to purchase a 21' bowrider (Checkmate 2100
Pulsare with Merc 225 ProMax outboard), generally for lake boating
around Northern California. I was wondering though what everyone's
opinion is of boating with this type of boat in the Bay. Can I take a
21' bowrider around the golden gate? around redwood city? just
wondering if people generally do this or typically avoid it unless they
have something much larger. Happy new year everyone! Harkyn |
