Used boat price - Sea Ray 185 Monaco

Could anyone give me an idea for correct price for this boat?

It's a Sea Ray 185 Monaco, 1988 with 4.3 litre V6 Mercruiser petrol engine. 5.6mx2.3mx0.95m

I've been offered what I think is a good deal, but don't know enough to be certain.

Cheers,

Sounds like you're posting from the UK, or AUS maybe?

I'm confident that boat pricing around the world probably conforms to the same general principles as here in the US, and therefore there is no single correct price for an 18-year-old boat. The three biggest factors influencing the price will be condition, condition, and condition. There are 1988 Sea Rays that should probably be sawed into chunks and hauled to the nearest landfill. There are 1988 Sea Rays that have been well cared for, intelligently used, and thoroughly maintained these are easily and legitimately worth a definite premium above a boat in "average" condition.

While it's not all that common to have a surveyor look over an 18-foot boat, it isn't entirely unreasonable to get a surveyor or some other legitimate local expert with a knowledge of boats and local values to examine the boat in question and then offer an opinion. The cost for a couple of hours professional assistance will be a lot less than the cost of perhaps a hundred hours of professional services to put a (possibly) bad boat back into serviceable shape.

Another variable is regional pricing. Certain brands and styles of boats that are very popular in one cruising area are less deisrable, (therefore available more cheaply), in others. I could offer a long list of classic examples, but there's no doubt that the market for an 18-foot, 18-year-old Sea Ray will be different in your specific area than elsewhere- and could well be different from the market for that same boat just a few hundred miles away.
