Ah! For a home on Sea of Cortez!. How about cohousing? Read on:

There has been much interest of late in retirement, assisted-living, catered-for-your-lifestyle & cohousing communities-neighborhoods exclusively for Gay & Lesbian single and partnered couples.

These would be built in areas of North America that have shown themselves to be ` open ` to such communities/ventures. Areas such as MS, AL, GA, LA, AZ, NM, NV, CA dare I say it---even TX, etc. would be options where, with careful planning, the land, building costs, living costs, etc. are reasonably inexpensive. ( " Sister "-forgive the word-communities for beach bums, sailors, RVers, etc. might be feasible in coastal Sonora ( e.g. San Carlos, Kino Bay) &

Baja California ( e.g. Loreto, La Paz), MX. and some sort of monitored swapping/exchange of housing could be arranged between the various communities' owners---variety being, as they say- the " spice of life ".)

For the most part, sunnier climes would be favored.

The communities would be marketed to maturer Gays & Lesbians through mailings, the Internet ( Groups on Yahoo!, Google, MSN, etc. known to be favored by ` alternative lifestyle ` guys & gals), through TV, thru' CoHousingUSA.org., radio, print ads, word-of-mouth, etc.

Both single residences, condos, shared and fractional ownership, time- share ownership & assisted-living facilities would be explored.

Businesses & professionals ( e.g, Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, maintenance folks, police, firemen, etc.) who are of like ilk to ourselves would be recruited to live in & give their professional services to these communities.

Considering our benefit to some smaller towns & cities across America (& MX) and the potential added value to these regions, our presence would be welcomed.

This is a feasibility study, and is directed at folks who might have an opinion on these matters & who might, given the right set of circumstances, be interested in ownership, renting, leasing, part-time living, etc. in such communities.

I know where you are coming from, Harry. I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body.

I have a relative who is lesbian. She's a great friend, and a super person. I love taking her fishing. I've also got a very good friend who is gay. Real nice guy.

I've no problem with either on a one to one basis. I *do* have a problem with idea that their sexual preferences should get forced down the throats of kids in public schools and be taught as a 'normal' lifestyle. I'm also not thrilled by the San Francisco gay parades.

Maybe I'm bad. -- 'Til next time,

Gay and lesbian housing is in high demand among folks dreaming of retiring to the Sea of Cortez? Pray tell :-)

There are certainly representative percentages of gays and lesbians involved with boating. I once belonged to a yacht club where the "couple" that owned one of the boats consisted of two guys. There were a handful of members in the club who one would suspect, based on the rest of their social and political values, might have some serious difficulty socializing with a same-sex couple but the marvelous thing was that the common bond of being boaters and members of the same club seemed to trump any concerns about the non-conformist lifestyle issues. The couple published the club newsletter for several years. There is also a well known and highly respected marine journeyman in our region who is lesbian, but (as it should be) she is far better known for her excellent workmanship and pleasant personality than her sexuality. While she doesn't keep her sexuality a secret (she freely discussed it with a reporter from one of the major daily newspapers) neither does she flaunt it.
