Carpetbagger's C & G
OK, everyone's heard of the Bisbee Black and Blue,
http://www.bisbees.com/, where prizes of over a million bucks are
routinely offered to West Coast fisherman for landing thousand pounders.
It's time for East Coasters to stand up for their dignity and show the
world that their sportsmen are just as proficient at landing the big
ones. I'd suggest the East Coast host an annual fishing tournament of
their own. They could call it the Carpetbagger's C & G, reflecting the
nature of true easterners, and award their own better sportsmen over a
million bucks for landing those mammoth grunts 'n croakers the East
Coast is known for.Just an idea... --

| Yep, it's difficult for some to face reality: http://www.bigmarinefish.com/marlin.html Now, if we were really to talk reality, we'd have to compare the various
marlin species. East Coasters don't have the challenge of abundant
blacks and striped marlin...and the few blues they still have are much
smaller. What they do have is a few teeny anemic white marlin. Heck, a
big bull Pacific dorado is a *much* better catch. As stated,
unfortunately, their future is croakers 'n grunts. --

| Only pigs and the uninformed target pelagic species they have no
intentions of eating. The great marlins are in trouble everywhere on
this planet. It figures a slimeball like you would be interested in
promoting further targeting of this wonderful fish. Of course, you're just a troll and are trying to stir up crap here. Too
bad everyone has your number, eh? |

| There must be something wrong with your reading comprehension, Krause.
I've correctly called the eastern yankee overfishing mentality
carpetbagging, and am promoting these types target croakers 'n grunts

you want a lesson in Floriduh skallywags practicing in the beltway? --

| Skipper, A month ago you were complaining about Harry using the NG to troll for
fights and arguments. Isn't this exactly what you are doing here? This
thread will do nothing but start another Skipper you are an idiot
replys. What is the deal with your infatuation with westerners vs
easterners? There are many westerners in the NG who actually live on
the west coast who participate in boating threads, but you are the only
person who enjoys boating on the west coast who views those who boat on
the east coast as someone to belittle. What is the deal?

| The deal is, Skipper is an idiot.
Oh...and Skipper enjoys the *idea* of boating on the West Coast.
He doesn't actually "boat" there. Stop encouraging him. |

| Harry,
You, and just about everyone else, have been calling Skipper an idiot
for years, it appears that is what encourages him. If he had to
actually discuss boating on the west coast, instead of calling the east
coasters names, he might decide to move onto another game.

| Skipper,
Most of the regulars in rec.boats have made a concerted effort to
improve the tone of rec.boats as a way to encourage new readers to the
NG. If we are to have a viable boating NG, we need to encourage new
readers to rec.boats. Flames wars are almost non existent, trolls have
been reduced considerable, and the OT posts are normally non inflammatory. Yet you who professed to want to turn the NG around, seem to be the one
who is interested in trolling for a flame war, with some silly east
coast-west coast troll. I was hoping you would be interested in discussing real boating topics,
not some fabricated superiority between the Pacific and the Atlantic,
but it appears I was wrong. |

| Getting back to the proposed tournament, you really would have to insist
on boated fish. It's the only way to avoid some idiot in a fab

thousand pound grunt. A million dollar jackpot would draw all kinds of
East Coast jackpots. --

| Half-naked babe mud wrestling, maybe. Nothing too serious. I haven't been to a pro wrestling match since I was a kid in New Haven,
and got to see "Argentina" Rocca on the card at the old New Haven Arena.
My father's best friend's father owner the Arena, and we got to meet
Rocca, whose words of wisdom to me were "Drink lots of milk." I was easy to please in those days. We were "regulars" at the New Haven
Blades' hockey games at the Arena. |

| I have not the slightest interest in catching huge pelagics just for the
"sport" of catching them. It's tough on the fish, and I don't have a
"need" to prove I can reel one alongside my boat. I long ago got rid of all my heavy tackle. I "target" flounder, because
I like to eat flounder, and I'll keep a couple of seatrout or even a
couple of blues for the table. Skipper likes to "discuss" deep-sea fishing as if he's a participant. He
isn't, just as he is not a salt-water boater. If he has any skill in
fishing, it is in fishing for bits of information in "Google" he can
post here. I'm not convinced he ever owned even that p.o.s. Bayliner he used to
brag about. |

| You're his 17th reply in 3 hours. (I'm the 18th). If you had any idea
how lonesome it is in Derby Kansas at 5:30 AM, with the wind off the
frozen prarie hammering on the dark storm windows (just prior to a
sunrise that reveals a flat, dry, bleak, and boring moonscape
environment) you'd understand his motivation. Skipper-type posts
continue to get far more response than anything boating related in this
NG. A troll doesn't care what type of response he gets- as long as
somebody, somewhere, knows he's alive and he can say, "Look, I actually
had an effect on someone's behavior for a moment or two- I guess I
count for something after all." Best remedy for childish posts: ignore them. |

| Speaking of which, I still vaguely remember my first semester out there
in Kansas, getting up in the cold dawn and walking the three miles from
the dorm for my 7:30 AM class. There were only two bright spots on those
journeys those cold winter mornings...walking past the Pi Phi house and
hoping some gal was standing near-naked in front of her window (never
happened), and walking past the nuclear reactor building and hoping some
"heat" might leak out. That never happened, either. When that north wind rolled down from Canada over the prairie states,
there was just no way to avoid it. The surroundings, though, were not as bleak as those found in SE Kansas,
where Derby is located. |

| Hate to tell you, but marlin in the Atlantic are basically kaput. Check
out the phacts: http://www.bigmarinefish.com/marlin.html No, East Coast fishing tournaments with any kind of future must be
restricted to the local species; croakers 'n grunts. You'd have a lot of
locals going for that million dollar payoff for a grunt. And let's face
it, the idea of the tournament would be to promote fishing. What kind of
reaction would you get when the winning East Coast marlin weighed in at
20 pounds. The reality is, it's croakers 'n grunts for East Coasters. --
