Opinions on what I should do if leaving my boat in storage for about three
months this spring in San Diego where I don't have to worry about freezing?
I use my 19' runabout with 3 liter MerCruiser sterndrive year round, so I've
never winterized it. But, it looks like I'll be traveling for three months
this spring and wonder if I should bother to do anything before I leave. I'm
thinking I'd probably be OK to just wait until I get back and add some oil
before starting it so the engine gets fresh lubricant as soon as it turns
over.
The last time, I tried changing oil before starting it. Even though the air
temperature was in the 60's, the oil was so thick it barely drained and I
had to suck it out with a pump. (The oil wasn't very dirty, just thick from
being cool.)
I don't have any place to leave the batteries. I'll probably leave them in
the boat and be prepared to use portable battery pack for the initial start.
