Anchors and pontoon boat

Anchors and pontoon boat We bought a 24' pontoon boat and I'm planning to install a couple of anchor winches and am wondering if anyone has an an opinion as to which type of anchor is best? We plan to anchor on lakes over night and don't want to drift if the wind comes up. Any input would be appreciated.	Pa Mar 10 2006
A SPADE A-80 is probably best, but too pricey. I'd probably put on a Horizon Claw, a Bruce knockoff. They set and re-set easily and hold pretty well in anything except small rocks or weeds. They also are easy to stow on a roller and look pretty decent. Danforth/Fortress/Guardian holds well in sand and mud, but are sometimes a bit trickier to set. Capt. Jeff	Tamaroak Mar 12

A small Danforth will do you just fine - say four feet of chain and the rest rope should be sufficient unless you are considering anchoring in the middle of Lake Michigan or similar. Any input would be appreciated. I carry one #13 danforth <style> and one #8 with a bunch of line (adjust to your likely depth). I like the big one for those times when you want to stick the anchor right now. Normally it is rigged to a short 25' rode on it for beach stops. If I am in deeper water (rare here) I have longer lines in the box. In salt water it is advisable to use stainless shackles so they won't crud ou on you and you can quickly swap rodes.	gfretwell Mar 11
