SeaDoo Sportster 4TEC 100-Hour Service is Pricey!

I have a SeaDoo Sportster 4TEC that is approaching 100 hours of operation. I called the dealer today to find out what the scheduled maintenance calls for at 100 hours.

The maintenance every 50 hours or 6 months runs about $225. The maintenance every 100 hours or 12 months is about $800!

Reason: The labor and parts to replace the "Impeller shaft seal, sleeve & O-ring." Yeah, there's a call to replace the coolant at this stage, too, but I know the big ticket item in this.

Has anyone done this and felt it truly justified? Has anyone foregone this 'til 150 or 200 hours and not had an issue?

$800/year to maintain a SeaDoo?! So much for maintenance free like ownership.

Who told you boat ownership was "maintenance-free?"

Why did you believe that?

I spend $300 to $500 a year maintaining my F225 outboard properly. Seems reasonable to me.

Harry,

I said "maintenance free like", as in the SeaDoo was positioned to me as the Honda of water vehicles. Now I know, first hand, the reasoning behind the adage: "The two best days of a boat owner are ... the day he gets his new boat, and the day he sells it." ;-)

Anyway, I'm looking to find out if this maintenance schedule is exaggerated by SeaDoo/Bombardier?
