3hp Minn Kota trolling motor

Can anyone tell me the thrust rating of the 1991 3hp Minn Kota trolling motor? I bought the motor used, planning on using this motor as primary power on my 10' Porta-Bote. Unfortunatly, there was no paperwork with the motor.		 Zebra

I have one of those. They never published the thrust figure as it was a marketing gimmick to rate it using "horsepower". It's not really a 3 hp motor either. It's HP "rated". Like the difference between "Cheese" and "Cheese Flavored Product" They were trying to tell tthe customer that it had roughly the same thrust as a 3 hp gas engine. I promise you that it doesn't! It performs about like a 2 hp gas engine at WOT. As the battery drains, it goes downhill from there. It's still a beefy little electric, but it's not a substitute for a 3 hp gas engine by any stretch. I have used mine on my portabote and it was a little faster than rowing with those shorty oars that come with the boat.
