please, advise what kind of boat should I look for...
I am new to boats fishing, etc, etc,
Couple of weeks ago I tried to fish from the pier in Santa Barbara.
It was very simple and very effective.
Just having a line and one hook, I was able to catch about 10 macrels.
We have cleaned them, fried and ate. Was real great.I live in San Diego but have never tried to do sam thing here.
What I want is to buy a simple boat. Could be even without the motor.
Just a row boat.
I have a truck. Small Toyota Tacoma. Is it possible to have a boat
that I can load and unload myself on my truck and bring it to shore and
go fishing? Can it be done from kayak? What kind of boat should it be?
Can I buy old and cheap one? Where I should start. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

| As many have posted here a Port a Bote would probably be a good safe
choice for a newby...or maybe a Walker Bay 10'...
People do fish from kayaks etc... but your harbour can be busy..right?
You want something stable in case you catch the wake from one of those
navy vessels. |

| You might consider something like one of these 12-foot Aluminum models. http://www.lundboats.com/1412a_06.html It is pretty easy to build a rack for hauling a boat like this on your
pickup. You put up a rear support at the tailgate that raises the boat
to a level where the front can rest on a support just above the roof
of the cab. You can get a set of wheels that will make it easy to
launch a boat like this single handed- (just roll it to the ramp)- so
you don't have to wait until a friend has a day off to go fishing. You
could row, or rig up about a 10 HP outboard. For near shore in settled
weather, a boat like this should be adequate. |

| Kayak fishing is quite popular up from san diego. Check out around la
jolla. Looked like real fun. Some guy caught a like 50 lb white sea
bass from a kayak. del cecchi |

| Suggests a scene from an old "B" whaling movie where the harpooned prey
drags the helpless little skiff all around the screen. :-) |

| Cheaper and easier to just jump on a 1/2 day or 3/4 day boat at any of the
SD Landings. |
