Water tank question

I just traded boats, and the new (to me) one has what appears to be a stainless water tank (my old boat had plastic). In the past I'd fill the tank and add a glug of Clorox to it to kill any bugs that might have joined me during the interim.

Something in the dark recesses of my brain says Stainless and Clorox don't mix.

Comments; Suggestions please!

Yep, most Stainless Steels corrode pretty readily from Chlorine. However, if you don't overdo it, there should be no problem..... say 16 drops per gallon.... I think that is about 10-11 PPM for standard concentration bleach. http://www.clorox.com/solutions_reg_bleach_faq.php

Then, too, you can flush out the system after it has been disinfected.... that's what I 'd do because I don't care for water that tastes like bleach..... bleeecah......

We NEVER drank water coming from the freshwater tank. I never trusted it. That water was used for the wash down faucet, washing hands, cleaning dishes and flushing the toilet. We always carried bottled water for drinking.
