Tongue jack.  Caster wheel.  Simple question.

First, I'm a novice, so please forgive the simpleton question:

I jacked my boat up to the highest position, and now the jack handle only operates to turn the caster wheel. I'm assuming it is made that way on purpose, but I can't get it back into "jack mode".

Did I break it, or is this a separate function? How do I get it back? Thanks in advance! MD

considered thoughts to the readers of rec.boats:

Mine has a "bump" forged into the tubes.... they have to be aligned for them to slip together.....

Is the wheel off the ground? If so, just hold it steady (keep it from turning), and it will operate normally.

For right handed people- Grasp wheel firmly, with your left hand, and hold, while turning the jack crank handle anti-clockwise with your right hand. Jim "mattydee35" <davism@musc.edu> wrote in message Jim

Mine must have come apart too. The wheel will rotate 360. I thought it was supposed to do that. ??? Jim

They all do that once the weight is off the wheel. I just put a foot against the wheel to keep it from spinning when jacking up or down in this mode. Corrects itself once friction/resistance is established on the wheel. Don

That is what I thought.
