carb trouble Mariner 75 again
OK, I got the boat home. I start it up. and it doesn't want to idle,
the bottom carb has a brass nipple in the throat that angles toward the
front of the boat, it looks like gas is bubbling out of there and
dripping down the front of the carb. What do I need to do? And what
causes this?Jerry |

| Jerry, If I'm properly comprehending what is happening, try pumping your
primer bulb when the engine is NOT running and see if this happens. If
it does, then it's probably a stuck float. If so, you'll need to remove
the bowl to investigate further. I don't know the age of the engine,
but if it's fairly new or it hasn't been too long since it's been
rebuilt, then you *might* be able to get away with not having to replace
the gaskets (recommended that you replace them!). Hope this helps,

| Remove the carb, clean it and replace the needle and seat. Also check the
float, make sure it's floating, may want to replace it. Flush the gas lines
before reconnecting them. Note... if you find small black silt in the carb, fuel hoses may be falling

| As a follow up, you'll probably need to rebuild the carb and if you do,
do all (both?). I believe the kits also contain all necessary gaskets. -Jim |

| More good advice! Forgot about the decaying fuel hoses, which is
definitely a good possibility with an older motor. |

| If it's the overflow from the bowl, it shouldn't be dripping down the carb
on a boat.
It should be plumbed back to the inlet side of the fuel pump. You really don't want raw gas leaking into the bilge of your boat. Eisboch |
