OK, Lets try this again.
First of all I'd like to say Hi and I'm happy to have found these
boards.I've been looking at Boats for about 6 months and have settled on a
power cruiser, used to avoid the hicky and beacuse it'll be my first
real boat. This boat seems to meet my needs and would love to hear from
some experienced people for their comments. 2001 WELLCRAFT MARTINIQUE 2600 Volvo GS 5.7 Volvo Duo Prop W/ UNDER 130 HOURS on boat and less than 40
hours on new engine with warranty till Dec. 06...FRESH WATER ONLY. Has all the goodies included and is a clean boat. Thanks for your coments. |

| Just curious. Why the new engine? Eisboch |

| Good point, but....how can that be a bad thing, especially with the
new one having less than 40 hours on it? From what I know about the Wellcraft Martinique's (we looked closely at a 32
footer before we bought our Maxum) they are built like tanks! |

| Built like a tank? A tank? |

|
| Yes, one that sinks. |

|
| Yep.....rock solid..or at least the ones from the mid to late 1990's
were. |
Aug 14
|
| Which is why the 5.7 is a little underpowered for a 2600... but for
cruising, & w/ the DuoProp, it will probably be adequate. Rob |

| A solid boat? Solid? (You realize this could go on forever) |

| I am just wondering why a 5 year old boat with less than 130 hours on it
needed a new engine. Eisboch |

|
| Yep.....so ask any further questions to: Greg Group, CO
http://www.greggroup.com/ He has seen plenty of them and rates them (as I did) as rock solid! |

|
| OMG! I forgot to tell you that he even thinks the newer Bayliners
are(are you sitting down?)...a good value for
their intended purpose...near shore, inland lake or freshwater! Imagine that. ;-) |

|
| I understand and you have a good question....but...... Our old dock neighbor (when we had our 32 footer) had and engine problem on
his brand new boat...the engine was replaced. I am sure he was able
to document the problem and the reason why the other engine failed. The bottom line is that he had a newer engine professionally installed. So I ask again...how can that be a bad thing? |
Aug 14
|
| I can think of one reason, based solely on personal experience. Cracked
block due to winter freeze. Been there. |

| New engine under 40 hours Pin hole in manifold...blah blah blah
end result, blown number 1 cylinder bad news was he only had the boat 5 hours when it happened. |

|
| Not to be anal about this, but how did the boat have 130 hours on it if the
original engine croaked after 5 hours? Eisboch |

| second owner. Boat had 80 something hrs on when he bought it. Point is....How's the Boat (power train), underpowered? does it plane
well? Any known problems with the boat? Does the arch blow off at 30
knots?
Any history here that me being a noob here would not be aware of? Yes,
we'll use the boat on freshwater for evenings and weekend pleasure. |

| In my case, the boat was only four years old and in excellent condition, and
warranted a proper repair. I called a number of shops in town to ask how
they would handle the repair. I got a lot of stupid answers like "we'll
just go down to the junkyard and pull a 350 out of a wrecked pickup truck".
I finally came across a shop that told me he would only do the job one way,
and that was to order a new crated 350 long block direct from MerCruiser, an
identical replacement. The only thing used from the old engine would be
externals, such as carb, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, distributor,
etc. I towed the boat to his shop the next day. Had it back in two weeks,
and it ran exactly the same as it did before the incident, which is to say,
perfect. That was six thousand 1992 insurance company (thankfully) dollars.
Turned out to be a very strong selling point when I sold the boat 6 months
later, since I was able to produce the repair invoice to potential buyers. |

| A little underpowered in my opinion for a heavy 26 footer. I have sea
trialed SeaRay 26s with the same engine and they are underpowered. We
presently have a heavy 24 with the same engine, older version. It
cruises at 23 to 24 kts which is adequate but no speed demon. |

| Why do you think they're named "bay-liners"? |
