grease new starter motor gear?
Hi gang, starter went on my '71 Chrysler 85hp O/B. So I have the new
one in there, but should I grease up 9 tooth gear that strikes the
flywheel? And with what? Or should I not worry about it? I fear
grease would collect debri and make matters worse. Just that my dad
said on the phone to grease something up. Wuh? |

pick up the grease and throw it all over the place.
The starter gear doesn't engage for very long during an engine start. Mark E. Williams |

| NO! do not grease it. The inertia type starter drive engages with a
very quick twist of the starter. If you grease it, it will actually
slow the gears performance down. If anything else, squirt some light
oil on the shaft. Tim
