Weird Noise When I turn My Key On
I have never heard this little noise before. When i just went down to
my boat and turned key on to see how much fuel I had I heard this
little noise in my 2002 Yamaha Outboard. It lasted for a few seconds
and stopped. It was a clicking sound similar to a bilge pump sucking
dry. Then I bumped the key and it started right up but when I shut off
the key it made the same little clicking noise. Does anyone know what
this might be? |

| I don't think hour meter - was thinking maybe electric fuel pump but I
always thought either they work or don't work |

| Four stroke or HPDI? Not that it makes a difference, just curious. It's probably the fuel pump. I know when I had FICHTs, every once in
a while the bulb would lose pressure and the fuel pump would click
once or twice - kinda told me that it was time to re pressurize the
fuel line. Even with the E-TEC, when the system finishes checking the systems,
you can hear the fuel pump running although I must admit it doesn't
click - more of a hum. Try pressurizing the system. |

| Its a 4 stroker - When you say pressurize do you mean with the hand
primer? - I had it on the computer about 6 weeks ago and it got a clean
bill of health and I have been busy with work and have only used it a
1/2 dozen times - although anything can happen at anytime - I will see
how it works in the morning - if not oh mr sea tow come get me |

| Heh - yep. Best insurance ever. I wouldn't worry about it - next time pull the cover before you start
it and see where the noise is coming from. |
