What would make a stingray jump out of the water onto a boat?

Would that kind of occurrence be seasonal?

I don't think so. There is some speculation they jump to relieve themselves of parasites. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/pbcsouth/content/local_news/epaper/2006/10/20/m1a_STINGRAY_1020.html

Nope. They can and do jump from time to time. I've seen it in the Gulf more than once.

I've always subscribed to the "diver giving the ray a goose" theory myself. :>)
