Rememberance Day

Beautiful day here this morning so I packed the wife & pup into my pickup and drove down to Point Pleasant Park for some R & R. Talk about dog city. There are only two parks in the city where dogs can run legally off leash and this is the biggest. We took the smaller 'interior paths' down to the shore and arrived around 1040 hrs. Just below us on the shore road, a military parade was heading towards the Sailors Memorial. Thanks to Hurricane Juan 3 years ago, we now have a great view of the ocean from some of the paths which were forested in since I can remember. We stayed for the 11 day, 11th hour ceremony to honour the war dead on the cold North Atlantic convoy runs out of Halifax. It's been a while since I've gone to one of these, as we don't have any close relatives who died in any of the wars (that I know about). This year seemed special because of the 43 Canadian deaths in Afghanistan this year. It was beautiful, the sun sparkling off the water, a number of sailboats & launches positioned just off the shore taking in the service and a couple of large ocean going ships in the background...one arriving and one departing the port. Wish I had taken my digital camera. http://www.mikecampbell.net/sailorsmemorial.htm

I'll not lie. The meter is still in the garage. It will be installed in the spring. JohnH

I think someone would need a crane to steal that. Dan

Excellent tribute and memorium.

I was thinking more of the anti-religion crowd. JohnH

A nice memorial. Down here it would attract folks wanting to take the cross from the top, which is a damn shame. JohnH
