mercruiser power steering. Any advantages?
My tubby old 27' ChrisCraft Cavalier didn't ahve it, but it did have a
nice wheel,and forward steering was effortless. But my 22 Ft. Monarch
with 350 GM Mercruiser doesn't.A friends 19 ft tri-hull w/ 250 Gm Mercruiser has power steering, And
I've seen smaller boats like my 17 ' Chris craft with a 3.0 have power
steering? What's the deal? It looks to me like a real PITA to install it on mine, even if I spent
the big bucks and bought a factory kit, or got a system from a donor
boat. On some craft, is it an option? and what is the advantage of power
steering ...if any? |

| Inboards still prop walk but ios the prop walk wants to puch the io to the
side as well.

| True. I rememeber the 27' didn't really steer hard, in fact the side pull was
pretty mild to the point of being almost un noticable. .. But backing up was something else. regardless of how you turned the
rudder, it still would back up counter clockwise, I would not back
straight. It was still a lot of fun! The side pull on my little 17' isn't bad at plane speed, but is a bit
noticable. at low cruising speed it's a pull, and I can see where power
steering would be an advantage. But after looking at what it would take
to install PS on the I/O, I really don't think it's worth it. |

| The largest advantage would be elimination of torque steer when you are
trimmed out on a plane. Without power steering, you need to hold onto
the wheel or the boat goes into a hard turn all by itself. With power
steering, you can actually let go of the wheel and the boat will
maintain its heading. I have had it both ways, and I prefer not having to constantly counter
act big torque steer. Captain Steve

| Hey, thanks! I didn't know that.... I do know that if theinode tab
isn't set correctly, on my smaller boat, I will geet the pull to the
right., but I really didn't knwot hat was what the power sttering was
for. thansk agian! |

| I'm guessing your chriscraft was an inboard, not an i/o. It's not that
difficult to install, everything is located at the engine. But I'd agree
