Troubleshooting an Anchor:

a dry anchor means fair weather. a wet anchor means it's raining. a dusty anchor means a dust storm. a swaying anchor means it's windy. a shadow under the anchor means it's sunny. a white anchor means it's snowing. if the anchor is jumping up and down, expect rough seas. if the anchor is under water it's likely that you are not underway.

Don't come a knockin' if the boat is a rockin'.... JimH

I believe that should be filed more appropriately under weather forecasting. Chuck

Similar to the weather rock that I bought my wife's dad one year!

If the anchor is in the forward berth, it was not secured. JR

Yeah, been there, done that. Got a spare in a plastic laundry crate on the starboard berth, along with 200' of 3/8" line. Harry

I don't usually carry a spare unless we are gunkholing, in which case, I know the tidal current is going to be screwing with me unmercifully.... *then* I have a second... and *use* it! Gene

Small spares come in handy at boaters' beaches. -- John JohnH

Didn't think I would have to spell out this one.... If the main anchor is in the forward berth, it came loose in heavy seas, crashing through the forward hull or deck.... JR brother....

I usually lose one anchor a year to Bottom Dwelling Eater of Anchors, so I always carry a spare. Harry

The only thing that one should service regularly in the forward berth is the anchor wench. Chuck

Ya know, if I had a forward berth, my wife would go up there and smack you! :-)
