soundproofing

Have an I/o engine cover I would like to install some sound dampening liner to.....anyone have any suggestions.

Correct. I've seen some of the stuff which I think would be ideal and it's the material used on some GM cars under the hood to reduce noise. Its fiber on the bood side, and a metallic flame retardant material on the engine side. One could probably get all they could stand at a local bone yard for almost nothing. Tim

Could be, that is, unless you get it from a fresh wreck. But would still beat fiber getting caught on anything it can. That is, if thats the way one is going to go. Tim

I know there's an insulating material which is a fiber one one side and a metalic sheathing on the other, which is used in many automotive aplications for soundproffing, insulation, and the metal , I believe is used as a flame retardent.

I wouldn't think it would be that difficult to come up with something esasy and inexpensive you can use, though.

West marine has various stick on sound proofing materials. You want to use somethign that is fire retardent so don't just go to the foam store.
