Ice covered boats slide show....
A girlfriend of mine who lives in Paris sent me a Power Point slide show that's sort of
a French joke about a sudden unexpected ice storm they had in Europe. It has some awesome
pictures of boats covered up with thick ice. Some are even sunk at the docks by it.
I couldn't open it at first. But Microsoft has a free Power Point reader you can download
to read it if you don't have Office on your computer. I only have Works. You can just google
Power Point reader and find it that way. The reader is free and it works great.
Anyway, here's the link: http://www.badongo.com/file/2059539 You only have to put
the code numbers in the box and it will ask you where you wanna download it to. Just put it
on your desktop unless you'd rather put it someplace else. But put it where you can find it
when it's done downloading. Don't worry, there's no virus in it. I checked it before I
opened it myself.Cheers,

| I wonder if that is "The" Ellen MacArthur or just someone pretending to be
her. It would be quite the honor to have the real one grace us with her presence.

| I've been wondering the same thing, but didn't see much point in asking. The
message header looked like it may have been forged. |

| Ok... this is nuts, I have never seen ice like this. I would hate to be
out at sea, and have to deal with knocking this off. It looks like it built up
very fast. |

| I had seen these photos several years ago. They are not recent. What is interesting to note is that it is just the boats in the
foreground that have the problem, not in the background, at the rear
docks. And the sterns were fairly clear of ice to boot. It seems that
the ice was from waves crashing up on the dock and blowing over the dock
and coating the boats. Very unusual, and interesting. My Dad once had a boat sunk because it froze to the ice at low tide.
Then the tide came up and the ice did not. It was frozen to the
bulkhead. So it held the boat down and the water came over the sides. By the way, that was 40 some years ago, in southern NJ. Back then it
would occasionally get cold enough to drive on the bay. Smaller and
lighter cars too. I remember the mouth of the creek being frozen up.
Dad would nail sheet steel over the bow of the boat, a "garvey", think
big john boat of white cedar. Anyway, he would run into the ice to
break it up. When it got too thick the boat would just ride up on the
ice any you would have a thin opening where the shaft went into the water. Howard Ellen MacArthur wrote: |

I've got Herring filtered out, along with the rest of the right-wing
a**holes. Ergo, I missed this bon mot along with, of course, all the
rest of his intellectually challenged posts. Thanks for passing it on. Not. |

his right-wing drivel. It's a slide-show of a very impressive ice storm.
I viewed it safely, but then, I use Linux. ;-) It can also be downloaded

| That's nothing. These boats have more than a foot of ice on them. Some are
sunk by the weight of it. Cheers,
