is there a season on lake fishing? and limits?
Soemthing I've wondered is if there is a limit on certian catch's and a
season on some species of lake fish.Like on most wild game, there are seasons and limits to hunting, deer,
squirel, pheasant, quail, dove, etc. etc. I didn't know if certian lakes have a limit or seasons on certian
catch's? just curious... |

| Tom,
The Subject header " is there a season on lake fishing? and limits?" was
part of the thread that started with the "N***** offensive thread. Tim,
either intentionally to change the offensive post, or unintentionally
added his question into the offensive post thread by changing the
subject heading. While this does change the subject header, it is still
part of the original offensive thread. I read Chuck's response as a
joke, and did not read it as pompous or directed towards anyone in the
NG, but the troll who crossposted the thread that most of us would find
offensive. |

quesion concering limits on lake catchs. It was a question i was going to post anyhow, but took advantage of the
moment to change the origional to what I wished to make it more
appropriate for this NG, because I found the OP's posting nothing but a
pathetic troll. I didn't reply back to the cross posting, but cleaned
off the other NG's and formated my post to rec.boats only. So as not to
fant he flame. When I key in to rec.boats, and see somebody posts something like that,
I will continue to take advantage of the situation and change the
thread to a more friendly and hopefully useful discussion. |

Some folks find it easier to type when not balancing a chip on the
shoulder. :-) It's easy to see why you jumped to the conclusion that you did when you
explained how your newsreader works. Based on the way most people see
and read the group, my intent was obvious. Sorry that you mistook it,

happened on Monday evening and I stayed up with him all night, but he
didn't recover and he was in obvious pain - the light went out so to
speak. I'll get over it eventually, but this was the toughest one I've ever
had to do - Duke was a very special dog and I miss him terribly. We
used to do the morning tour together - get in the truck, head down to
the store, get the paper, I'd buy him a bottle of water and then we'd
head over to the local state park where I'd let him run around a
little bit when we'd play a game with the water bottle - I'd squirt
the water at him and he'd try to catch it - he got pretty good at it
acutely - kind of like the football players on the sidelines. :>) This morning I caught myself buying a bottle of water and it bummed me
out all over again. :>) Ah well - nothing for it I guess except to find another dog - I just

| So, if you catch over the limit, or the wrong fish, in the wrong
season. what kind of a fine can you get. I mean, is that classified as
"poaching"? |
Tim
Jan 25
|
| It depends on the officer inspecting. Sometime it can't be helped. For instance, if you are blackfishing
and catch a flounder out of season that can't be returned to the water
for whatever reason (swallowed hook for instance), they are pretty
lenient. If you are targeting a species out of season, then they will
be more difficult. However part of the problem is that enforcement is spotty and if you
fish the areas I fish, you have to deal with three states with
differing size/catch limits and filet requirements (none of them
compatible)( in the space of 200 yards Makes for an interesting time.
I've been stopped and inspected by all three state DEP/DEM
organizations and once, all three in one day. |

launch that takes priority. |

| CT has a short shoreline in the Stonington area. It's only about 200
feet off the shore - shorter in some areas - like 50 feet and your in
another state until you get past New London and into LIS where it's
different and more reasonable. In the Fisher's Island area, most of the waters belong to NY, move 10
feet North and you are in RI, move another 50 feet West and you are in
CT. All three have their own rules and enforce their own jurisdiction
- in particular RI. When I launch at Barn Island for instance, I go
through three states in the space of 50 feet. In Narragansett Bay, it can get even sticker as RI owns most of the
Bay with MA owning a very short piece along the shoreline bordering MA
- less than 100 yards. In theory, you can catch a fish in RI that
doesn't meet the requirements of MA and get pinched for it. However, to address your question, it's where you are, not where you
launch. |
Short
Jan 25

| Man! that can be difficult. I'm wondering why the three states don't

|
| For fresh water, that works fine. We have several lakes in the area
that border neighboring states and the general rule is the state you
are licensed is the governing body when you fish those lakes. In
fact, one lake in MA borders all three states - RI/CT/MA and the one
instance where all three states agreed on limits, size, etc. Salt water, it's a whole different thing - freedom of the seas, yada,
yada, yada. Very provincial. When I was on the local NMF Board,
there were four of us who came up with a detailed practical plan to
regionalize size and limits and developed a plan for a salt water
license to improve launch ramps, marsh areas and access points for
shore fishers - presented it and it never got past the NMF review
board - all politics and we didn't have the horsepower because the
review board has members from all the adjoining states and their
standing orders are to protect their turf. |
