Evinrude/Johnson v-4's are a really good engine. of course, they're obsolete by todays standards,a nd parts can be a bit pricey, but they are still work horses.

Make sure your water impeller is in good condition,a nd you check for oil leaks int he lower unit. Another thing, is that most two cycle engines work with a ixture of crankshaft presser and vacuum. The seal below the flywheel will eventually weather out,a nd will cause hard starting and lean running, which isn't good on pistons,a nd can cause a ppowerhead burn out.

As long as all seal, gaskets, and impeller are in good shape, and the carbs are flushed and clean, I don't see why that engine can't give you good service for several more years.

Good luck!
