Single-Handed Anchoring Using a Bow Mounted Trolling Motor

I would like to know if this is a valid option to use a bow mounted electric trolling motor to assist in anchoring single-handedly.

I think I can lower the anchor single-handedly by simply letting the boat to drift while releasing anchor rope until the anchor set properly. But I have a feeling that I need some help when I need to raise the anchor single-handedly. I am wondering if a bow mounted trolling motor may help me to position the boat at the correct angle in order to pull the anchor loose. Then all the boat-positioning and anchor-pulling will be performed right at the bow, instead of going back and fro between the bow and the helm. If this really helps, I can add this as one of the justification to purchase a bow mounted electric trolling motor (in addition to use it for fishing and for backup).

I appreciate if someone can share his experience in using a bow- mounted trolling motor to assist in anchoring.

Thanks in advance.

I never form attachments to my anchors because the ties that bind us usually have to be parted. Harry

Don't think so, I love that anchor.

Depends on the wind, the current, and how each impact your boat when it is anchored. On a small boat, without too much current, sure. I've seen it done in ICW channels and I'm sure some lake boaters do it, too. Harry

Frankly, the trolling motor will probably be a lot easier to justify than the boat itself. But for anchoring?.... that'd be kinda weak. Seems to me there could be a better arguement that it'd just get in the way.

I'm assuming we're talking about a bass boat here. Not a sailboat or power cruiser. A trolling motor would look a bit silly on one of those.

Anyhow, I vote you just go get the trolling motor if you'd like one. Nobody... especially your wife.... is gonna go for the anchoring thing.

Hey, that's Harry's trick !

Wish it would work with my 120 lb anchor and chain.

Just use a 55 gallon drum for the float!

Get a smaller anchor, and use less chain. Harry

Works fine - do it all the time.

Unless you need to unstick the anchor in which case you need to manuever with your main engine.
