finding a used boat

Is there a good website to find used boats? I am in central Indiana, FWIW. Thanks!

If you're not looking for anything flashy and just want to get on the water at minimal cost, I have a 1977 Thunderbird S-18 that might suit you. The whole long story is here: http://users.adelphia.net/~blizzard3/boat/index.htm (Skip down to the last installment if you want to know why I'm thinking of selling.) Ernest

What size and type of used boat are you looking for?

Small to modest sized used boats for sale in your area can be found at http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/boa/

Yeah, I heard there was a nice, 2003 Scout 202 CC for sale there .... cheap.

yachtworld.com will have nearly all the brokerage boats- but only brokerage boats- so if you are looking for something rather small or modestly priced it is unlikely to show up there.

Private parties often advertise on Craigslist (typically the real el- cheapo "garage sale" sort of fixer uppers- but there are exceptions).

Boat Trader now owns Yachtworld (if you can't beat 'em, buy 'em) and has started another site that accepts private party advertising: www.boats.com

Then there is always traderonline.com

to change the subject a little. Saw on tonight's news where someone posted an ad on Craigslist that everything in a house was available for free. People showed up removed windows, sinks, etc. Craigslist says the person has to get a court order to find out who posted the ad. The owner of the rental figures was the last tenant that got evicted. this is a good start, thanks!

fyi: I want a 17-20' runabout or cuddy for under 10k, preferably under 5k but for the right boat, I'd step up. living in central Indiana, i am realistic about how often i will use it... maybe 6-10 times a year. I work most Saturdays & the nearest lake is Freeman/ Schafer both small dirty & small , 1/2 hour away. Raccoon is about twice as far & also pretty small but at least clean. :-)

thanks for all the replies

I bought both my boats on Ebay. (in the fall when the market is slumped)

And have been very satisfied with my purchases.

Also one thing about Ebay, is that you can type in your zip code, and "distance nearest first" and target boats closest to you. It worked for me... Tim

Did you buy that from a guy in Derby, Kansas by any chance?

Why would anyone need a boat in Derby, Kansas?

P.S. Drove an F350 diesel yesterday. Long bed. Won't fit in my garage, would have to live in the old barn. I could cut a few feet off the bed, I suppose...

Why do you want/need a big, diesel truck anyway? I bought mine because it was the only SRW truck that could tow what I wanted to tow at the time. (Don't like "dualies").

Now that I don't need to tow anything that heavy I am seriously thinking of replacing it ... if I can find something I like.
