I rewrote the Halman ad - what do you think?

I'm adding the following to the Halman ad.

PLEASE READ BEFORE RESPONDING:

1 - I am not selling the trailer separately.

2 - I will not sell the boat w/o the trailer/engine.

3 - I will not sell the sails individually.

4 - All surveyors must present a business card with proper identification of marine certification association prior to any survey.

Too funny. We recently went thru the boat selling experience. Had a small skiff that was not being used much and taking up too much room in my garage.

Listed it via the local paper, to a number of sources, and it sold quickly. I think back and guess I could of asked for more, but I actually pocketed a few hundred more than we paid for it. Those small skiffs in SW Florida do not last long on the market, they seem to be one of the styles in very high demand.

I was out of town, fielded at least a dozen serious callers, then called them all to let them know when I was getting back in town. The second person to who looked at it, bought it. All in all a very reasonable and semi-pleasurable experience.

Now the fleet is down to 3. Assuming the kayaks can be counted in the fleet. I figure they float, so why not. It's my fleet and I'm sticking to it!

Happiest of Mother's Day out there to all the Moms!

If Mrs. Wave, SWMBO, has her way, there will be one boat only.

I've talked her into two. :>)

But I have to upgrade one of those to include something with more amenities - like a potty room.

Women - go figure.

Hey...why are you insulting a perfectly good sailboat! ;-) Don

Just so you don't scare away any sensible people..... I'd combine the first 3 items as..... To be sold as a complete boat/motor/trailer package only. No exceptions!

If that doesn't do the trick...let the idiots waste gas and drive all the way out to your place before kicking their butts back home.

I'd hook up the trailer to the truck, deliver it with the boat to a local, trusted broker and let him sell it. Paying the 10% commission is well worth it to avoid dealing with all the tire-kicking deal seekers.

I'm just letting off some steam.

Besides, I can't find a broker who will handle it for the money I want for it.

I like (shudder) Don's idea better. It doesn't sound so negative. John

Absolutely! How much is one's time worth compared to that $450 or so commission? JimH

Donate it to the local Boy Scout camp (assuming it is on the water) or kids sailing club and take the tax donation.

A win-win situation.

Maybe he'd like to get the other 75% of the value also. (Depending on his bracket, of course.) John

Business card? I would insist on seeing the actual certification. Then I would call the organization who issued the certification to confirm it was legit. CWM Charlie

A broker really isn't interested in storing a boat or making much effort in order to make a possible $400 commission. I think his absolute best shot is runnig a classified ad at Trailersailor.com. I sold a Seaward Fox for the full asking price very quickly there. The couple drove from Michigan to Connecticut to buy it, and I had others from Illinois and other far flung places waiting in the wings if they didn't take it for some reason. I could have sold 3 or 4 Seawards that weekend from that ad. CWM Charlie

I think you'd have a better chance of a Canadian buying it. You're not that far from Ontario/Quebec http://www.boatforsale.net/ Don

Absolutely correct, which is why few brokers screw around with inexpensive boats.

As Tom already discovered, there can be as much work and heartache involved in a $4,500 deal as in a $45,000 deal, and the guy who wants to spend $450,000? He is often the easiest to sell. If he's spending that much he very well might know something about boats and his specific needs, and unless his expectations are absurd he's got enough money in the game that he can pick through the better offerings.

"Duh.... will y' take $50.00 down, and $50.00 a month payments on the 3rd, when I git my check??" Tim
May 11
Sure.

Come to think of it, this would be the perfect boat for you. :>)
