windlass won't engage
I have a windlass on my 1997 searay when i try and activate, it makes
a loud click sound, but does not engage either up or down. I also
tryed remote (down only) switch on bow and it does the same thing. I
removed the up/down switch on the dash to check the connections they
are fine. The click sound seemss to be coming from behind the dash.
Do these units have a silanoid or capacitor behind dash that could be
failing? |

| Or the gear drive is jammed, or the shaft bearings frozen, etc, etc. Start with the simple things like checking the circuit breaker/fuse to
the windlass motor. |

| They have a solenoid..... *where* it is could be nearly anywhere from
the battery to the windlass and any points in between. A "click," however, sounds like the solenoid is working, but the motor
is not. This could be an open circuit, dirty connections, or a blown
fuse/tripped breaker. Properly installed, the unit probably has a
breaker. Time for some serious troubleshooting...... |
