Now that they have been around for a while what is the verdict?

Tour boats on the Estero River have started using them and they seem happy. These guys are putting 100-150 hours a month on them. gfretwell

I got my 90 ETEC (blue freshwater version) in May of 2005 and I absolutely love it. I don't have tons of time on it (not even sure how to check the hours), but for my use (rec pontoon, some fishing) it has been flawless. I have had zero problems with it. Well, to be honest, I had the little Bombardier round label come off the other day.

Mine is set to the X100 oil and I haven't cracked the seal on the jug of oil because the engine uses no oil. I'm serious. I put a mark on the oil reservior when I bought it and it has moved about 3/16" of an inch over two seasons.

I haven't had any issues at all (except for the little label) in my experience. I did have the fuel pump replaced last year, but that was a service directive from BRP, no problems on my end. I expected to have some recalls due to the engine being new, but so far, only that fuel pump recall. First scheduled maintainence is next spring.

Winterizaton is automatic. I just got mine out of winter storage last weekend and it started on the first turn after sitting idle for 6 months. It starts faster than any of my cars and there is no smoke.

I believe all the raves for this engine are true. It's awesome in my opinion and I recommend ETEC's to anyone who asks about my motor.

Outstanding with my 200 HO.

Efficient, power up the wazoo, quiet with no major burps.

Did have one minor EMM problem which involved the clock resetting - usually after about an hour of run time. It was annoying, but not major.

My old Contender's new owner is living the high life with twins under charter use - told me he was glad he made the switch. One guy at my old marina switched from Optimax to ETEC and tells me all the time he wish he had done it sooner.

In my opinon, best engines made.
