Fuel flow direction in Racor filter
I recently bought a boat with a 1990 Yamaha 225 outboard. I was
checking out the gas filter and noticed that the little arrows on the
top are not pointed in the direction of the fuel flow - they are
pointing to the tank. This is the type filter with the plastic bowl at
the bottom for collecting water. Will this filter work properly with
the fuel flowing through backwards? The unit was probably installed 10
or more years ago.Thanks,

| How is any water get into the bowl if its backwards? It will be stopped
by the element and build up in the top housing till your engine cuts or
the element tears (as its not properly supported to take reverse
pressure). As you dont know for certain when the element was last
changed, change it now and put the connections the right way round. If
there is any cracking or deterioration of the housing and bowl, it would
be worth replacing the whole thing.

| The water will get through but you are still trapping the dirt on the
wrong side. Why not just swap the hoses and get a fresh filter? |
