More Questions

I have a couple questions in my quest to know as much about boats before I buy a boat

How many hours (roughly) on a boat would equal 100,000 miles on a car engine? is there some equation to convert hours = miles of wear?

How often do you change the oil in a boat?

Do you have to dry dock a boat to do this or is it easier?

Is it true that Volvo has a better engine than mercuiser?

What are everyone's feelings on Regal Vs other boat manufactures?

What is dead rise and why does it matter?

thanks Rogue

If you said a boat engine operates at typical highway RPMs most of the time, figure a mile a minute. 1666 hours is 100,000 miles. The reality is you are actually going different speeds so I would double that at least. I have almost 2000 hours on a 2002 Merc 60 right now and it is still running great. ... but cars go over 100k miles without a whimper these days too. We can thank the Japs for pushing that technology on us 2 decades ago. Now most cars ... and boats, use it.

Merc says 100 hours but I usually do it a bit sooner

Today both merc and volvo use marinized chevy engines so they are basically the same.

It is a ludicrous comparison, although many make it. HK
