Yo!! Gene K. or Wayne B.

Either of you guys renewed your ARS license via the web recently?

What the hell is all this FRN and new coordinate system to renew?

I renewed mine last year, reasonably painless once you understand the terminology. My recollection of FRN is that it is an attempt by the FCC to tie together all licenses belonging to an individual or corporation under a common ID number. For example if you search on my FRN you will not only find my ham license but also the marine licenses.

Apparently this FRN stuff is pretty much as described by Wayne. One number ties my Amateur and Commercial licenses together.

I'm not sure the purpose of the coordinate system unless that fulfils the requirements to do the advanced search to find stations or licensees in a geographic area.

IIRC, I had to do the FRN thing at least 6 years ago.

Along those same lines......

It took me 1 day short of three months to get my USCG license renewed. The process is to be sighted at my 'local' office (Charleston, SC) and the paperwork is completed at the NMC office in West Virginia. If you are closer than three months to your expiration date, you may be screwed.....

One of my friends waited 6 months!
