Been trying to post...
I hope this one goes through. I have been trying to reply on my other
post on the transducer but it just won't show up through google
groups. Anyway we took out the new/used boat on sunday. We ran it on
Lake Poinsett west side of Cocoa and ran out to an island. Cast the
line out and got a couple of bites but were unable to set the hook so
we decided to go to another part of the lake. Started the engine, put
it in gear and got up to around 2500 rpm and it bogged down and
stalled. Started it again and gave it some gas and around 2000 rpm
again it started sputtering and bogging down. I thought maybe I got
some weed on the prop so I raised the lower unit and saw nothing. So I
figured it had to be something with the lower unit. We were out around
2 miles so I cruised back to the ramp and got the boat out. When I got
it home I pulled the lower plug and there were some filings on the
plug (not a ball just few to make the edge fuzzy). Around a cup of
pure water ran out of the lower unit before the milky white oil came
out. Bummer... So now I have an order in for a seal kit. I am afraid
to open the lowerr unit up because I don't want to see what damage it
did... Hopefully only a bearing or two. Anyway. It was hot out there.
Even with the bimini top on it we were sweating pretty good. But it
was a lot of fun while it lasted. I do have a question though... My
humminbird pirahnamax 215 fish finder would kick over to show 200-300
feet for a few seconds and then go back to normal again. Is this
normal or do I need to get it replaced?Oh and to HK sorry for putting a reserve on the transducer. (it was
$25) the reason I do that is in case it slips through the cracks and
only one person bids on it and get it for $10 bucks. It was cheaper to
put it up at $10 and put a reserver of $25 than it was to list it @
$25. Well enough for now. One last thing... I did want to say hey to Bill
in Livermore. He knows who he is. I hope all is well. JV |

| Unfortunately, I have written a couple of trip reports as well as a
couple of other posts, not just garbage, that have just dissappeared.
Even the posts that have showed up, are not regestering in the history
profile, They are just gone. |

| Well it looks like all the posts that I did last week actually showed up...
(Not that it is that difficult) I now look like an idiot... Gotta love
technology... Does anyone else experience a fishfinder showing 200+ feet in 4 foot of
water for a few seconds then showing the actual depth? Is this normal or
should I call humminbird? Thanks in advance |

| It's not that unusual to get false depths on sounder, particularly
for a seconds. Some things that seem to help include keeping the
transducer clean, making sure the wiring is of large enough diameter
and properly connected at both ends, and being careful not to run more
than one sounding device at a time from your vessel. I often see
situations where somebody is running a sounder on a flybridge and then
goes to the lower helm and turn on another sounder without turning the
first sounder off. In cases where there are separate transducers
rather than slave units I suspect they get confused about which echoes
to recognize. I upgraded to a new sounder a few years ago. Even though I only have
one sounder on my boat, (there is a backup unit that never gets used),
the old unit produced a lot of false intermittent readings. The new
one, by Raymarine, is much better. |

| That certainly seems plausible but I haven't had any
interference while running a Garmin transducer at the
starboard stern and a Humminbird at the port stern separated
by about 6 feet. Two identical units probably would be more
troublesome. |

| I run a Furuno and a Lowrance fishfinder at the same time on Yo Ho. The
transducers are about five feet apart at the transom. |

| Google groups have been really screwed, but don't worry- it doesn't
look like you've missed much. Bunch of political garbage from the usual suspects. Pretty sad. |
