Finally! A Stringer of Hogan Stripers.(NorCal fishing)

I bought some "RotoChip" rigs (Like RSKs with "the Chip") and used them yesterday. They have larger single hooks instead of the trebles I've been using with my Kripple Lure harnesses that I've been rigging myself. And they supposedly put a small electric charge into the water that imitates wounded or fleeing bait fish. They roll the anchovy (or shad) nicely, too. Whatever the case, I tripled my catch using them.

I caught two at 30' and one at 20', two on anchovy and one on shad. All were caught in main part of the lake between the dam and Deer Flat. I was on the water just after 0600 and off at 1130 as the lice began to show up. Maybe the 5 MPH limit they just placed on Folsom Lake (Sacramento) is sending more lice to Hogan - ?

The old dam is peeking out of the water pretty good now as the lake drops. The lower it gets, the better the fishing. I hope!

New Hogan Reservoir is a Corps of Engineers lake near Stockton in Central California. It's just $4 to launch and fish. ($2 with senior or handicap discount.) The limit is 10 stripers (!) and no size restriction. Only three lakes in California permit more than the state limit of two with a minimum size of 18".

Here's a photo of the RotoChip at Cabela's:

And no, those aren't short, although on Hogan there is no size restriction. The state minimum is 18", but it doesn't apply. The three stripers weighed 3 lb.-4 lb. each and totaled over 10 lbs. I've caught many stripers there, but never one under 18" or 19". Very strange. On the nearby Delta you usually have to catch many stripers under 18" before you catch a keeper.

Relax Dale - I was just busitng your chops. :>)

Thanks for the link - appreciate it. Bill showed me a link also - I'm giong to get a few just to try out when I head down to SC in a couple of weeks.

Interesting fish - they look very bullet shaped rather than "fat" like the ones on the East Coast.

I assume trolling is an appropriate technique - how fast?

I troll at about 2 MPH. But they often troll much faster for Delta stripers.

You want fat!? Check out this 70 pound striper that was caught this week at San Luis Reservoir near here. And the guy didn't want to bother getting a certified weight. It would have been a new state record!

Freshwater. Size limits here are 18". Yes is a clip that holds the bait. Gets pretty much the correct roll on the bait easily. The E clip has an extra feature. Small tube with a ball bearing that hits a crystal to generate a small electrical pulse. Supposed to be like the signals bait fish put out. Calif

A little on the short side aren't they? :>)

I'd never heard of a Rotary Salmon Killer - learn something new everyday.

How do you rig them - is that like a clip that holds the bait on?
