Shimano Sidestab Spinning Reel

My 15 year old Daiwa has a broken "anti-reverse cam spring". I'm going fishing this weekend and I won't be able to get a replacement spring in time for the fishing outing. It's a Daiwa 1055 model with auto-cast and rear drag. The guy at the repair shop said it was a very good reel in its day and was worth repairing (I know, what else would he say?!). Anyway, I don't want to spend a lot of money on what would be a replacement reel and I wanted to find one with auto-cast and rear drag for under $50.00, preferably around $30.00. The only one I could find that is readily available in my area is a Shimano Sidestab. Anybody have any comments, pro or con, on this reel?

Thanks, Sylvester -- "If you won't be number one in my life, then number two on you!"

It's an excellent reel! Scotty

The very cheapest Shimano spinning reels are still good reels. The Sidestab should serve you well.

I have always wondered what kind of idiot game that reel it's name. RichZ© www.richz.com/fishing RichZ

It has 3 features that I've come to love--autocast, rear drag, and quick release spools. I picked one up yesterday and it's awfully smooth for a $30 reel. mccoyswink

Excellent. I figured Shimano was a good brand, thanks for the input.

It is a strange name. Perhaps it's supposed to be describing the hook-setting action? Although I can't see the huge role the reel has to do with setting the hook. mccoyswink

Don't know if they still do, but tat the time that reel came out, all shimano spinning reel model names began with the letter S. I think they just ran out of suitable S words.
