I'm always bragging....
about the kid when he wins or does good in a tournament, but I'm, more
proud of his last "award" than anything else. John was up at Lake Mead
this week-end for the Miller High Life tour tournament, and at the
pairings meeting, they called John on stage and presented him with the
tours "Sportsmans" award for saving a fellow angler at the Mohave Lake
tournament last month. The guy he saved prsented the award, and John
told me it was the best feeling he has had in his pro career! I thought
that was a great comment considering he placed that above winning the
Open. Can ya tell I love that kid!

| I always say that kids are a mirror reflection of their parents Mr Kerr. In
this case I have no doubt. Warren --

The second day of the Mohave tournament was pretty nasty weather, it's a
canyon lake, and the wind was 40 +, the waves were 4-6 feet. John was
slowly making his way to his spot when he saw a boat coming way too fast
for conditions. As he watched, the other boat nosed into a huge wave and
it threw the pro through the windshield and into the water. John headed
torward the boat, but could't find the guy at first with the huge waves.
He shut his engine down, afraid he would hit him with the prop, went on
trolling motor, and finally spotted him, told his AA to get him in the
boat. The guy was unconcious, and the AA couldn't pull him in, so John
left the front of the boat and helped get him aboard. John's AA was
getting really shook up, but John told him they had to find the pro's
AA, and see how he was. He had a hard time getting along side the other
boat, but finally managed it. The AA was still in the boat...thank God
for kill swiches. John managed to get them back to the launch, and the
pro was air flighted out, broken ribs, punctured lung and severe facial
cuts...he made it just fine after treatment! John's AA didn't want to
continue fishing, but John promised him he would stay in a little cove
just off the marina. John was in 8th place, and wanted to finish. He
ended up 7th for the tournament, not a big check, but he got the points
he needed to stay in the top 15.
John told me afterwards, "It was a long day Dad!" :). |
