Awful day on the lake
Went to Mudge today. The prediction was for 15 mph winds out of the north.
Not ideal, but not all that bad.On the other hand, the 35 mph winds we actually had for much of the day
were VERY bad. Had a couple good fish roll on the salad spoon in the pads early, when it
was still in the 15mph range, but neither actually made contact. Guy with
me got a small one on a slug-go. Then the wind started to build. Caught a
surprising number of bass (20+) on jerkbaits (Ponters in assorted colors)
but all were small. Also caught 25 crappies on the same jerkbaits. Caught
another couple between the two of us (including both of our biggest fish --
which ain't saying much) in the pads on Slug-Gos. A friend of mine was out and he ended up doing very well, considering the
conditions, flipping and pitching a black & blue jig in the pads. They had
20 fish including a few in the 4-1/2 range. Tough to do with the wind
blowing like it was. My hat's off to them. RichZ©

| I'd rather fish in pouring rain, possibly even snow than heavy wind! A
little is good, a lot sucks! All in all, not a bad day considering..... |

| I think what made it most disappointing for me is that I succumbed to the
lure of the surprisingly steady action from the dinks on the jerkbait,
while somebody else found much better fish in pads that I had fished pretty
hard without finding anything consistent. RichZ©

| Ditto! My first 5 trips out this year were days with heavy wind. All of them were
miserable to fish in. Even cancelled a tournament due to wind, combined with
really low temps as well. Brad Coovert

| I could not help but feel sorry for you Rich after I got up and saw that
wind howling. Sounds like you tried to make the best of it though. I think I
would still have rather been fishing than sitting here nursing this bum leg
(lol). |
