Garmin / Rec Lakes / Fishing Hot Spots GPS CD ROM

Garmin and Fishing Hot Spots have come to their senses (a little) and revised the pricing structure for their electronic maps that work with Garmin GPS units. It used to be you needed an unlock key for each "region" of the country. But "regions" were very different. Wisconsin was a "region" and then several states in the southeast were a region -- each region could cost $$$$ to have access to.

With version 5.0 (I got mine at Gander Mountain -- Cabelas isn't stocking them yet and BPS has been out) you can purchase 1/3 of the country: East Central or West.

The CD was $99. at Gander and Garmin has a $30 rebate if you are upgrading, so this makes the map product much more affordableand usable. They have added a significant number of maps -- including depth contours for the former gravel pits 3 blocks from my house.

(Boom lake is stil included in the central version -- as are several other Wisconsin favorites).

Zen, I just bought the "Southern Ontario" "great lakes" topo maps for my Lowrance X-15 and that was $300 + Canadian, not sure if this makes you feel any better? --  Stony
