SW totally destroyed beyond repair

Thursday evening I hooked into the strongest bass I have ever hooked while bumping my SW {white 3/8 oz} through the top of a big laydown. The fish first got into the limbs and I figured that the line was going to snap. But it didn't.. got the fish untangled and straight down and out under the boat it went ,taking line the whole time.I finally turned the fish and I though I've won .Got the bass to the boat ,fish see's me and down it goes on another run. Finally get it to the boat again and see that my SW is twisted like a pretzel and crooked and looks like it's going to brake any second.I lip the bass and squeal like a child .The bass weighted 6-2 but what a strong fish. As I tried to straighten my mangled SW it is creased in the "R" bend , the hook swivels from side to side in the head and the hook is bent at about a 45degree angle. Also the metal frame doesn't want to straighten out to track true. This lure has caught a couple of dozen fish so I'm not complaining and I,m going to order several more.Bob makes a great spinnerbait.I hate to spend money but there are some things that you just can't do without Ken

Ken, you have the older series Secret Weapons. Except for our blade attachments, they were made from the the best "off the shelf" parts we could find for our purposes, including the heads. That wire was .032 stainless steel, really good stuff. But our new, 100% SWL designed & made (except for the Mustad hooks from Norway) components are far better yet.

Keep in mind that the body frame wires on today's standard, first generation design spinnerbaits (not SW's) are supposed to vibrate to help impart action into the blade(s). Also, they have to be flexible enough to bend down during strikes so the fish can get to the hooks. Our lures are based on a totally different principle, where we actually want rigidity in our frame wires, which never get in the way of the hooks (the free floating blade attachments are only held in place by water pressure, and they move out of the way exceeding easy. Our blades, being mounted on totally free floating attachments, move and vibrate independently from the frame. Being of rather heavy wire themselves, even the largest fish is usually unsuccessful in getting enough leverage to bend the attachments because they are free floating. Under our current design specifications, the frames of our new bodies are now made to fit our actual needs, and use an improved stainless steel wire that is not only stronger, but is also 56% heavier (.040 dia.) than what we were forced to use before. In other words, the new frames may bend a little at times, but they sure won't bend as easy.

I have to tell a quick story on myself. Rob Storm is a good friend, and when he went into far northern Canada a few years ago to fish for some monster Northerns, he bought a bunch of our original 3/4 oz. spinnerbaits on my recommendations. They came back looking like pretzels! Thank goodness he is a truly nice guy who did catch a big bunch of fish or he would have put those lures where the sun don't shine in yours truly. When our Musky lures come out in the next year or so, I am gonna send him some freebies to make up for my error. Some wear & tear such as Ken's is a part of fishing that is going to happen... no spinnerbait is totally indestructable. But Rob's major loss was my mistake for thinking my standard lures at that time would handle huge Northern Pike, etc. without blanket damage. Now we know better, and will have dedicated extra heavy-duty "Musky" models for that.

Put that SW on the wal next to a pic of that fish (or replica/mount, etc). On a nice little wooden plaque, w/ a brass plate, etc, which has the date and the word "retired".

I did that with the 3/8th oz. Baby Bass Secret Weapon that helped me get 3rd in the Southern Classic. A 6.14, and two other bass over 5 pounds while down there were caught on that lure. It now resides inside the frame of my 3rd place certificate. It looks pretty good there.

Those of you that have been to my house have seen the netting I have hung in the corner of the living room. It's full of lures that my dad had, as well as retired lures from other big fish.

Lots of good memories there.....
