Battery question
If your trolling motor battery was accidently submerged in about ten feet of
water for about 15 minutes, would it cause it any harm? It's not sealed it

| The water probably diluted the acid pretty bad, especially if it was fully
charged. If it was charged I would drain it and refil with new acid - used to
be able to get it an auto parts stores, not sure any more. If it was discharged
you also lost a lot of the lead that was in the acid, so that is a bigger
problem, but all you can do is drain and fill with new acid and hope. If the battery was charged, test it before doing anything and see what its
specific gravity is. If still good, the acid probably did not get diluted.

| My guess is probably not but it's simple to know... if it works, no. If it
does not, yes. While the battery would have small holes in the caps to allow for gases to
vent, I doubt much, if any, water would enter through these holes. Pop the
covers off and see if the battery is filled up to complety with water. If
so, I'd remvoe a little out of each cell. There is usually some type of full
indicator in the inside. About the only "damage" I can see this causing is that the water contains a
very small amount of deposits which will stick to the plates in the battery.
But I'm guessing that the batter was almost completly full of water when
submerged that very little lake water would have entered (again, if any). |

| Ok here it is. Me and Dave were fishing and caught a few good bass and
started our usual"we know we aren't 60 but fight like we have been fishing
together for 60 years".. and one thing lead to another. we dropped all the
important stuff off at shore and went out it, Nobody won as we tipped the
boat and subsequently sunk it. We did manage to get the boat upright(filled
with water and Dave rescued the battery from the bottom of the lake. Motor
seems to be fine as does the battery. I have not re-charged it yet but I
guess I'll find out tomorrow. Thanks Ronnie one of the local stores here
sells the acid for the battery. I'm gonna add a bit if it doesn't seem to
work as before, On a brighter note the boat is cleaner than ever. It was
truly something that should have been caught on videotape, especially the
part when we flipped the boat and were both hanging over it drenched yelling

| Nope he still owes me 29 days , so the possibilities are endless. and on a
down side both he and my nephew lost a fish in your underwear team bet. They
both owe me a morning of fishing in nothing but their underwear. I'm glad
I'll be on my own boat for that one. |
