Bassmaster Classic

Well we watched last part of Saturday and all of Sunday's coverage by ESPN and we thought it was excellend (except for the nasal Aussie reporter) and that it was great prime time coverage for the sport. What did y'all think?

Also noted that the anglers all seemed to let their hair down a llittle more and were more "demonstative" on the water and in the arena post Iconelli's reaction last year. And that reaction seemed to inspire both positive and negative comment here as I recall. I think it's great. Wondering what you boys n girls think.

Good observations, but Ike isn't the only one "making noise" in the BASS ranks. I got to see Gerald Swindle and Greg Hackney AND Jason Quinn in person this weekend, and they are all boistrous types apparently. For that matter, Jason Quinn wears more jewerly than my wife! LOL!

IMO, it is just a sign of the times. Not all fishermen will be the laid back conservative types with today's youth getting into the sport. Strikes some people the wrong way, granted, but I don't see it being a bad thing. If we don't get this sport turned over to some youth, there will be no more BASS. And the people these younger Gen X guys can reach, that the older guys can't, then the better for the sport and the sponsorship situation I'd think. Not that I dislike the older guys, don't think that, it's just that tourney fishing HAS to wear on one's family and on them physically as well and these guys of the 70s and 80s have got to be thinking it's about time to go ahead and pass the baton...honestly, after talking to Rick Clunn for a few minutes at the show yesterday, I felt old myself...I grew up watching that young wipper snapper winning Classics left and right, and we both sat there and talked about our grey hair yesterday...lol And don't talk to me about Hank Parker and Shaw Grigsby, saw them both in their best Grecian formula this weekend too. ;-)

Wow. Totally opposite impression from what I've gotten. Gerald is actually kind of shy and uses humor to overcome it. And Jason, despite his appearance, was nothing but dignified on stage when it comes to his behavior. My wife -- who likes jewelry on guys about as much as a thorn in her foot -- even remarked that his behavior was a pleasant surprise, and she was actually rooting for him.

Maybe that is just their stage personas, but Gerald and Jason were both quite excitable acting and raising cain when it was their turn under the lights. I like the guys, I really do, didn't mean to convey anything different. But none of them came across as shy, so maybe it is something that they do to get through being in the public eye. I can understand that. I think all the young guys and newcomers (that may not be so young) are assests to an already great sport, that's all. SimRacer
