OT: Deep cycle cranking battery?

Does anyone use a deep cycle battery for cranking? Is there any reason not to use a deep cycle battery for cranking except for cost?

As I understand it, deep cycle batteries tend to be better made and have insulation plates to prevent plate warping from deep discharge. For cranking, deep discharge should never be a problem. My thinking is that batteries get abused from trailering (bouncing on the road if you do not have shocks on the trailer) and bouncing across waves.

Would a deep cycle fair better under these conditions?

Deep cycle batteries have thicker plates and heat up more when lots of power is pulled from them fast. They usually don't have as high a cold cranking capacity as a cranking battery. They will work fine. I have used deep cycle for cranking, and often use them in tractors, trucks and even my boat when they got where they would not hold a charge for 10 hours of fishing, but I would not buy one as a cranking battery. If buying a new battery for cranking I would get one made for that. Ronnie fishing.guide@about.com http://fishing.about.com rgarri7470
