| I'm using 30 lb exclusively, so I don't know about other
diameters/strengths. I was throwing fairly light spinner baits (not the most aerodynamic lures in
the world) directly into 15/20 mph gusty blasts. Downwind, I had a few
""catchcasts" ( not really backlashes), but none as bad as the SB against
the wind. I have previously tried spraying both WD 40 and Silicone on the wound up
reel. Neither seemed to help for very long. The wax job may not last either.
I don't have enough hours on it to tell. Clearly if it helps as this
application did, and I can substitute spray wax....( Hell, I may even try
PAM..It'll smell like food for the fish! )....it would be a big help in the
wind, with light casts. I almost exclusively use baitcasters, and I know that they are more of a
problem, but I'm from Texas and it's a Texas thing! Besides, I love them and
their control and the ability to use topwaters; walk the dog; etc. My
experiences with spin casting ( I've owned spinning reels since the original
Mitchell 300's & now own some Penns) leave me pretty cold. No noticeable problems with "waxy thumb"...what should I be looking
for...slipping off of the reel; failure to hold the rod; unable to open the
tackle box...Ho Ho Ho??? Please do try the Teflon and let me ( us ) know the outcome. As a group we
can experiment with a lot of ideas.
